A few questions about EE4

Hello,

I have previously had a developer licence for EE3 and, now that I once again need an event booking system for my WP site, I am considering whether to use EE4 or another WP plugin. I have a few questions that will help me with this decision:

1. Does the Printable Ticket add on work in the same way as the add on for EE3, i.e. customised tickets that can be printed and scanned at the door using the EE app on an iPhone? Or would I need the Ticket Scanning add on as well or instead of this?

2. Is the Quickbooks Payment Gateway integrated into EE4? If not, please can you provide as accurate an estimate as possible as to when this will be integrated, as this is a necessary feature for me.

3. As a previous customer are you able to offer a discount for EE4 and the add ons I will need? The events I am putting on are for charitable purposes, to promote better ways of responding to families in crisis, and any savings are much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your response.

Nick

Hi Nick,

1. Does the Printable Ticket add on work in the same way as the add on for EE3, i.e. customised tickets that can be printed and scanned at the door using the EE app on an iPhone? Or would I need the Ticket Scanning add on as well or instead of this?

EE4 Tickets are not compatible with the EE3 Scanning apps, EE4 currently does not have a mobile app for tickets. The EE4 Ticketing Add-on and the EE4 Barcode Scanning are used to scan the tickets. You can use a computer/laptop to do so, or it is possible to use a Bluetooth bar-code scanner with a mobile device, but again this is not an app.

2. Is the Quickbooks Payment Gateway integrated into EE4? If not, please can you provide as accurate an estimate as possible as to when this will be integrated, as this is a necessary feature for me.

Currently we do not have a Quickbooks Payment Method for EE4. Would you be interested in sponsoring the gateway?

3. As a previous customer are you able to offer a discount for EE4 and the add ons I will need? The events I am putting on are for charitable purposes, to promote better ways of responding to families in crisis, and any savings are much appreciated!

We do offer discounts for Charity and Non-Profit organisations, you can apply here:

Thanks Tony. So if I understand you correctly I would need both the ticketing add on and the scanning add on and a laptop or a bluetooth scanner to have the same functionality as scanning tickets with the EE3 app. Is this correct?

The bluetooth scanner connects to an app (? – if so on an iPhone I am hoping), but this isn’t an EE app, though somehow it would interact with EE so that I can keep track on who has attended an event?

How could I scan tickets with a laptop?

Regarding the Quickbooks Payment Gateway how does this work with EE3? – is an entry automatically added to Quickbooks Online for this? – this is what I am looking for – a way of payments for events automatically being added to Quickbooks, so that I don’t have to add/reconcile them manually.

What does sponsoring the gateway involve? We are a small budget charitable organisation, so there isn’t a lot in the pot!

Hi Nick,

Both the ticketing addon and barcode addon would be needed yes. Scanning tickets requires a bar code scanner connected to your computer or mobile device. It doesn’t connect to an app, the website would need to be open on your phone – see here for more info https://eventespresso.com/wiki/barcode-scanner-add-on/

The Quickbooks Merchant Services (QBMS) gateway does indeed sync TRANSACTION data with your QB account. However it will only do that if the QBMS gateway is used for payment. It’s a gateway not a full integration, so registration form data isn’t sent over either.

Gateway sponsoring information is here: https://eventespresso.com/product/custom-gateway-development/

Thanks Dean. So just to be clear. If the correct website page is displayed on my mobile or laptop then I can continuously scan people in using a Barcode Scanner? I don’t have to do anything manually on the webpage each time I scan someone in? At some of my events I have a lot of people arriving at once, and so I need a quick way of checking people in.

It seems to me that having to have a barcode scanner connected to a device is a backward step from having a dedicated app which, in my experience, worked seamless with EE3. What is the reasoning behind this? Is there an app planned for EE4?

Hi,

Yes that’s correct, there’s a continuous scanning mode now available in the addon.

If anything having a physical barcode scanner is likely to speed up the process, though I understand that it’s an added expense, when the app was free and pretty much everyone has a compatible phone nowadays.

We don’t currently have a mobile app planned for EE4, but this may change in the future depending on demand.
