EE test drive on testing server?

Hi,

I’m building a WordPress site for a client and we want to use Event Espresso. I see I need to apply for the test drive, but I’m wondering if I do “test drive” it, can I install it on the site which is being developed on my testing server or will there be problems later because it’s not yet on the client’s server? I usually install all plugins and content first on my hosting account, test things out and then just upload the whole site to the client’s hosting account when complete.

Also, is there a way to turn the test drive into the paid version (business license version) when we’re ready to “go live?”

BTW, I will be testing it on a Godaddy account. I know the warnings but will see if I run into problems. If so, I’ll have to switch to a different host (and so will the client).

Hi there Michael,

You can get your own test drive site in minutes through this link:

http://demoee.org/

You can’t install any plugins at this time but you will have access to all of the Event Espresso 4 options so you can get a feel of how the plugin works.

The test drive isn’t a separate license. When you are ready, you can pickup a license of your choice in our store and you’ll be able to download Event Espresso 4 and get setup with your own host (Godaddy).

Let me know if I can answer any additional questions for you.

Hi Lorenzo,

I’m not sure what the plugins do. We want to set up classes with limited seats and waiting lists, and accept payments. Will I be able to check these things out?

Also, I don’t know what the differences are between EE3 and EE4. From what I read on your website, my take was that EE3 was the way to go. Am I wrong?

Hi Michael, with the demo site you’ll be able to create events and make changes to Event Espresso.

However, you cannot upload any plugins at this time. If you have not yet had a chance to do so, please register through this link:

http://demoee.org/

For information on Event Espresso 3 and Event Espresso 4, please take a look at this blog post:

Hi Lorenzo,

Yes, I did register.

When you write “plug ins” is that the same as “add ons?”

One of the things we need is the wait list and I see this isn’t available for EE4.

Also some of the add ons for EE3 are recurring events, calendar and mailchimp. We need those too.

Is the demo EE4? If so, how can I test EE3. I need those add ons and what EE3 does, so why would I want to go with EE4?

Or, is the demo a good place to learn either EE3 or EE4. I’m confused. If we need to use EE3, will it be a different interface from the demo?

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

demoee.org uses Event Espresso 4, which is the latest version (in Beta).

EE4 does NOT currently have any add ons (our term for plugins that add extra functionality to the main plugin but cannot be used alone, such as the Calendar, Recurring Events etc). We are working on releasing add ons currently but time scales are unknown.

EE4 is not a good fit for everyone right now, so if you need certain features then yes go with EE3.

We currently do not have a testing feature for EE3, though you can download the basic Lite version – https://eventespresso.com/event-espresso-lite-preview/ – to help get a feel for the plugin.
