Got a new license key and input it in WP. When I try to update the Event Espresso plugin, I get this error message: Update package not available.

Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Are you still running into the same issue?

‘Update package not available’ means your server couldn’t connect to ours to download the zip file which can happen for multiple reasons (your host may be blocking the connection, a plugin is hijacking the request and it’s being rejected by ourselves or just a poor connection between the 2 at that time).

Or if you have Event Espresso 3 installed on the site and your current license is for EE4, which version do you have on the site?

If you retry the update now do you get the same error?

Thanks for the reply. I actually just started working on this site for my client, so I had to check on a few of those things you mentioned.

I am still getting the update failure.

Right now, we are running version: 3.1.36.4.P. The current license they purchased is for EE4.

The issue I am also running into is there is a current registration going on (and some problems occurring that I hope a plugin update will cure), so I’m a little leery about changing versions, unless this can be done without much interference.

Suggestions?

You’ll continue to get an update package not available error because the site is EE3 but the license is for EE4.

Since you’re leery about changing to a major version, you could download a copy of the current version of EE3 from GitHub, available here:

https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-legacy/archive/master.zip

After you 1) download you can 2) Go to your WP Dashboard Plugins page and deactivate and delete the old version of Event Espresso (you will not lose data because Event Espresso does not run uninstall scripts when you deactivate & delete the plugin)
3) Upload the new plugin to your site via Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New.
4) Activate the plugin.

If you’re curious about the differences between 3.1.36.4.p and the current version of EE3, they’re listed here:
https://eventespresso.com/wiki/change-log/
Then you’ll scroll down through the last 4 years of changelog entries.

Thanks,

How would I go about changing to the major version and would this also mean I won’t lose current data?

You would follow this guide:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4

There is an option to migrate event & registration data from EE3 to EE4. Please note that depending on the amount of EE3 data & the web server’s resources it can take a significant amount of time to run the migration. You might consider to wait to do the migration until after the current registration is completed.
