Social Coupons (Groupon) not able to set value

We are a small business planning on running a deal on a groupon-type site. We were excited to see that plugin as part of EE3. Our groupon deal would be a discounted price for one person and a discounted price for two people.

We were testing out the plugin and realized that the codes generated apply a 100% discount on the order. So, for example, when someone purchased a groupon code for themselves but also wanted to sign up 2 more friends and pay full price at the same time, it doesn’t just apply the code to one person, it takes 100& off the entire order.

Now ideally we could put a note on our AD saying only sign up 1-2 people at a time depending on the groupon you purchased, and everyone would be honest and not take advantage of the 100% discount, but I don’t think that will happen.

I read up on some old forums from 2012/2013 and it looks like nothing could be done at that time other than companies having to monitor the registrations and making sure nobody took advantage. As a small business that is planning on selling over 500 groupons, we do not have the time or manpower to monitor these codes and whether people are being honest.

I did read a forum in which a man had a similar problem and somehow created an option in which he could input a percentage discount for each code. Ideally we would like to put a price with each code, ensuring that our groupon is not used incorrectly. Clearly this man had experience, we do not. https://eventespresso.com/topic/how-to-use-discount-with-one-time-use-groupon-vouchers/

So my questions (1)Is there anything new that we can do easily to fix this problem? (2) If we find someone with expertise, would it be possible to add a value option to each groupon code we generate?

Thank you!

(1)Is there anything new that we can do easily to fix this problem?

Not with EE3.

The Groupon add-on was designed to be used for Groupon promotions that provide full discount, so its actually working as originally intended.

(2) If we find someone with expertise, would it be possible to add a value option to each groupon code we generate?

Yes it would be possible although it may take more work than expected. You’ll need to store the values within the Groupon codes themselves (which the Groupon add-on does not currently have), then once the code is checked and found to be valid, pull the value and apply the discount.

Before moving have you considered using EE4?

The EE4 Promotions Add-on applies the promotion code per event, so you could setup promotions that allow X amount off and apply that to a specific event. The user can then register for multiple tickets and apply the discount to the total.

It does not have a batch upload function like EE3 has for the Groupon Add-on but sounds like it may suit your needs better.
