Sign up problems using EE4 and older versions of IE

We have been receiving a handful of complaints over the past couple weeks with sign up problems. We have been able to come up with the conclusion that the sign up process for some fails if they are using older IE versions and have been informing people to use a diff browser. However, we are getting too many messages and wondering if there is a fix or better approach to the problem? We can’t keep telling people to use a different browser. We are using EE4.2.6.
Thank you!

Hello,

Event Espresso should run with the last few major versions of Internet Explorer. Do you know which versions your registrants/attendees are using?

This site is a good resource for checking the current versions of several web browsers:

Hi Lorenzo,

I am not completely sure, but some of the few that I have personally had a discussion with have been on IE8. I also have IE9 on one of my computers and receive an error that claims to refresh the page and try again, which is what the others are complaining about.
So, is there a better way to handle this problem instead of telling people to use a different browser? Or is there a way to imbed a message on every event/registration landing page that has some sort of a footnote about internet browsers?

Hello,

One more question, are there any extensions installed in Internet Explorer?

We can add some messaging as you described. What pages are you interested in adding this to?

I don’t believe there are extensions installed. These are average people just trying to sign up for an event. We list quite a few events and it’s happening across the board, it’s not specific to a particular event.
My thought was can we hard code something into our EE as we are developing any event that the language would automatically appear at the top of a registration landing page that states something to the effect, “users with older web browsers may experience signup difficulties and should you experience and error please update your browser or switch to Firefox or Chrome”????

A better alternative may be to install a plugin such as Advanced Browser Check which will display a message to those users advising to update.

They can close this message and (with the correct settings) a cookie will be stored on their machine preventing it being displayed for another 24hrs.

The reason I suggest this is it offers multiple direct links to download updated browsers.

Would that work?

Thanks for that information. I will share with my team as that sounds like this could be a simple solution.
On a different note, any timeline when a discount code feature will be offered with our version of EE?

Hi there,

This is currently under development along with some other addons. We’ve put together a page here that provides an overview of the status of EE4:

https://eventespresso.com/ee4-frequently-asked-questions/

We hope you find it helpful!

Thanks for the info – we are eagerly awaiting a discount code feature and duplication ability for events, they are huge time savers! Thanks again for all your help.
