We are having a hard time figuring out why Event Espresso numbers don’t match up. We have an event that says there are 102 approved registrations (this number is top right in the “update event” box. This matches our payment records. Below in the tickets/dates-times box, it says 105 have been sold. We have 2 pending registrations, so this does not make up for the THREE that we are off in the counts. Can you help us figure out where the numbers are off?

Hi there,

Which payment method are you using?

Paypal Standard.

This is a known issue with PayPal Standard due to how unreliable the IPN’s can be.

The above can happen if the user and the IPN hit the site at exactly the same time, the IPN updates the count and then so does the user’s request, both at the same time which means the count is doubled for a single payment.

We deprecated PayPal standard a while back (it still shows for users that had it active but no longer shows for new installs) and recommend switching to PayPal Express. It uses the same account type as standard but different credentials from your account, see:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/paypal-express-payment-gateway/#locate

Switching over to PayPal Express has stopped the above with every reports we’ve had so far as it doesn’t rely on IPN’s to function.
