Paypal Standard Transaction Status Incomplete (2)

On my website, every time I am trying to register, the registration Status says Approved but the Transaction Status says Incomplete. I am using Paypal Standard. My PayPal account shows that that payment has received but the website translation page shows it as incomplete. Could you please help?

Similarly, it shows pending payment message to the person registering (screenshot https://s33.postimg.cc/cznkpcn4v/payment_pending.jpg)

Hi there,

every time I am trying to register, the registration Status says Approved but the Transaction Status says Incomplete

This sounds like you have the ‘Default Registration Status’ set to approved and if so that means any registration made on your event will apply to the ‘sold’ value, regardless of payment, is that expected?

I am using Paypal Standard. My PayPal account shows that that payment has received but the website translation page shows it as incomplete.

It sounds like an issue with IPN’s on your site (PayPal use what they call an IPN to notify your site a payment has been made), however, we recommend switching away from PayPal Standard to PayPal Express and one of the reasons for this is due to how unreliable IPN’s can be.

So rather than trying to work through the possible causes for this with PayPal Standard, I’d recommend switching to PayPal Express as it doesn’t use IPN’s and is considered more reliable.

It uses the same PayPal account type, but uses different credentials from that account, take a look here for details on how to find those:

Enable the PayPal Express payment method in Event Espresso -> Payment methods.

Add the above credentials and then disable the PayPal Standard payment method. Then if you test a payment using that payment method, does it work as expected?

additional information – GATEWAY RESPONSE column is empty. I have checked PayPal IPN which shows as sent.

Hi there,

I’m guessing you had the page open before I added my reply above, so just confirming you saw my above post?

Tony, thank you for your help. I switch to PayPal Express and it resolved the issue. The switching to PayPal Express was a very easy step and it took me only 5 min to switch. You do need a PayPal business account to be able to use PayPal Express and in my case, I already had that. Once again, thank you so much.

You’re most welcome, I’m glad it’s working for you now.

I hadn’t even thought about PayPal Personal accounts to be totally honest as with the various limits set on those accounts it’s been a long time since I’ve seen anyone try to use a PayPal personal account, either way, your point is still valid so my apologies.

When I mentioned the same account type I meant you wouldn’t need to enable ‘website payments pro‘ or similar and start paying a monthly fee (outside of your transaction fees) for that account type (like you would if you wanted to switch to the PayPal Pro payment method).

Enough rambling from me anyway 🙂 if you run into any further problems please do let us know.
