Payments on Registrations marked as incomplete

Some of the registrations that come in for various events have the payment status marked incomplete, even though the funds go through and show up in my paypal account. This has happened on multiple events. I can’t figure out what is causing it, and it is making it appear as though an event is not selling. How can I fix this? Thank you!

Hi Jesse, updating of the payment information relies on the PayPal IPN being enabled in your account.

Could you double-check the settings?

Thank you. The IPN is enabled and accurate.

Great! One other change that you may consider is the simplified transactions page template:

I’ve downloaded the file, but I don’t know how to then upload it into my theme.
Thank you!

Alright, could you take a look at these steps?

Uploaded, thank you! I should have more registrations coming in soon, so I’ll be able to ensure it is working. I appreciate the help and guidance!

Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem I am having. A registration came through a few hours later and the status of the payment was still marked “incomplete” though the money did show up in the PayPal account.

Hi Jesse,

Is Event Espresso 3 up to date?

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/change-log/

Are you using any security plugins like Bad Behavior? They may accidentally block the PayPal IPN.

One of thing to check is the PayPal IPN history. If PayPal could not reach your site with the IPN, then they will try again:

EE is up to date. I do not have bd Behavior, but I do have a Askimet for spam. Is this likely to cause troubles?

I also checked my PayPal IPN history, and the most recent transaction in question was not listed as needing to be resent, and had listed the delivery status sent, IPN type: transaction made.

Hi Jesse,

Akismet is fine. Are there any other security-related plugins on your site?

There are no other security related plug ins.

Hi, it shouldn’t be failing like that if there are no communication issues between PayPal and your site.

When you look at the registrations in the attendee record screen, are they showing as incomplete?

For most of the registrations, it works out. However, for a few, the payment is listed as incomplete. I am able to tell it has been paid for (aside form double checking in paypal) by noticing that the transaction ID is 0.

Hi Jesse,

If you go to /wp-content/uploads/espresso/logs/

You should find a paypal.ipn_results.log file.

Can you review that file and see if any errors are being thrown?

If you are unsure please email a copy of the file to support[at]eventespresso.com and we can take a look.
