No Registration Emails Being Sent

Emails are not being sent out with registration info and ticket links as setup. I have emails setting set to send, no on registration emails being sent prior to payment, and no to fancy email headers. I have tested both paid a free events to multiple email addresses and none send out an email confirm. I also tried to manually send the confirmation email using the Actions on the attendee screen – it does not send either.

Hi Audrea,

The first thing to check is whether the emails are getting sent to the spam folder. We have a list of other tips in our documentation:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-event-espresso/#email

There may also be a plugin conflict, and/or an issue with the mail server (especially if this is on shared hosting).

If it’s a mail server issue we have a plugin that can be used to send transactional emails through the PostMark or Mandrill services. These services are designed to ensure email delivery and are highly recommended. You can download the transactional email plugin from your account page by opting into the pre-release channel.

No, we checked – they aren’t getting trapped by spam. I have registered using multiple emails too so I could make sure it wasn’t an issue with just one server not accepting it. They are not being sent to any emails I tried. Did you receive any emails when you were trying it out via sandbox?

> If registration confirmation emails are set to be sent after payment is received, are payment notifications being received from the payment processor?

What exactly is “payment notifications from the payment processor”? If it’s the notification someone has registered and paid, I am receiving those. They are from:
WordPress wordpress@wealthmanagementuniversity.com via myserver.dreamhost.com

> There may also be a plugin conflict, and/or an issue with the mail server (especially if this is on shared hosting).

How do I know if I am on shared hosting? I am with DreamHost.com. As far as plugins go, I can begin deactivating one by one but that is an undertaking as I have to re-register so many times so I’m hoping it’s another issue. I don’t have many plugins and the ones’ I have are quite popular and widely used. I don’t have a cacheing plugin installed either.
So, after reading this post can you let me know if you think it might be a server issue instead and I need the plugin you mentioned or something else before I go deactivating each plugin one by one? ( sorry, I just hate doing that…)

My logs do show 191 errors, most of which are:

> cart.php -> event_espresso_invoke_cart_error

Is there something else I should look for? Should I copy and paste some of the most recent logs?

Hi Audrea,

This part indicates that some emails are getting sent from your server:

What exactly is “payment notifications from the payment processor”? If it’s the notification someone has registered and paid, I am receiving those. They are from:
WordPress wordpress@wealthmanagementuniversity.com via myserver.dreamhost.com

These are from your mailserver, and these are registration emails that are getting sent to the admin, so things are working, to a point. The payment notifications in your case would be from PayPal, and the notification you get isn’t an email, but a green check mark and a “Completed” payment status when you arrive back to the thank you page on return from PayPal. Are you getting a green check mark with a “Completed” payment status?

Dreamhost is a shared host, and they are a pretty good one, but I’d try testing out the mandrill service or Postmark, then you can track those emails.

Ok, I am getting the PayPal notifications as well as the green check marks next to each attendee. I will test the mandrill or postmark service and let you know if that works…

Ok, I have EE Email Transactions Plugin installed and Mandrill setup but the test emails aren’t working… I’m using a gmail address as our only email address. Could that be the problem? And I’ve setup the sending domains within Mandrill but it says that DKIM and SPF are missing. The directions aren’t clear on where I am supposed to put the txt file. Am I missing something?

I have deactivated all plugins except Event Espresso, tried to register for an event and still no emails… So, it’s not a plugin. I could use some help understanding what to do with the DKIM and SPF settings I mentioned in my last post.

Hi Audrea,

Where are you seeing the DKIM and SPF settings error? In Mandrill?

Maybe this will help:

Ok, finally got DKIM settings and SPF settings setup and both show as valid in Mandrill. However, for anyone else looking at this post for answers, it took a few hours AFTER I had it setup and validated before it worked.

Hi Audrea,

Did setting up the email through Mandrill help?
