Our company is designing a website for a client and he is requesting the following features. I have used EE in the past but between the 2 versions I am totally lost.

Here is the list of requests he has sent us based off his research on EE.

– Coupons
– Add on other items like purchase a book.*
– Link to social media
– Email confirmation and receipt to purchaser with event details (I will provide those to you in a different email)
– Will Event Espresso link to my invoicing app called Harvest? – http://www.getharvest.com/ (I do take PO’s and will invoice govt customers only.)
– Wait list up to 5 people
– Max seating (I will provide)
– Works with PayPal
– Events calendar, view like this or similar: http://fidelitysafety.com/food/calendar/index.php
– Here is the data that needs to be collected on the order form: https://www.fidelitysafety.com/onlineorder.php?class=411
– Final data to take to class with me: Student name, company name, place to sign or initial…like a sign in sheet. If I can cut and paste this info into a Word doc that would be good too.
– Payment at door option
– Links to maps
– Will email data merge with Mad Mimi?
– If a customer buys a digital copy of the book, can they download it or can it be emailed to them?

If someone can help me out that would be great as I am lost on where to start!

Hi Alex,

Ideally EE4 is the way forward as that version will become our main version. I would recommend reading this article https://eventespresso.com/2014/02/event-espresso-4-beta-officially-released/, but I have outlined your queries below

– Coupons

EE3 has them by default. Coming soon to EE4

– Add on other items like purchase a book.*

EE3 via the Price Modifier addon.

– Link to social media

EE3 via the Social addon
EE4 via any social network plugin (EE4 uses custom post types, whereas EE3 does not).

– Email confirmation and receipt to purchaser with event details (I will provide those to you in a different email)

Both

– Will Event Espresso link to my invoicing app called Harvest? – http://www.getharvest.com/ (I do take PO’s and will invoice govt customers only.)

We do not have any integrations with Harvest

– Wait list up to 5 people

EE3 only (currently)

– Max seating (I will provide)

Both

– Works with PayPal

Both

– Events calendar, view like this or similar: http://fidelitysafety.com/food/calendar/index.php

Both have a calendar but to get that table layout you would need to either use the EE3 addon called Custom Templates or buiold a custom template in EE4

– Here is the data that needs to be collected on the order form: https://www.fidelitysafety.com/onlineorder.php?class=411

Both can do that it’s fairly standard data
Note there is no email verification at present.

– Final data to take to class with me: Student name, company name, place to sign or initial…like a sign in sheet. If I can cut and paste this info into a Word doc that would be good too.

EE3 allows an export CSV or you can use a shortcode to display the data on a website page (and print that off).

– Payment at door option

We do not have a specific pay at the door option, but both EE3 and EE4 have cheque and invoice options that can be used instead.

– Links to maps

Both use Google Maps based on a venue.

– Will email data merge with Mad Mimi?

We have no Mad Mimi integration, we do have a Mailchimp one though (EE3 currently, coming soon in EE4).

– If a customer buys a digital copy of the book, can they download it or can it be emailed to them?

Well, there’s nothing specific to this but you could either add a link on the thank you page or a link in the email. EE4 uses a more robust system so you can add media directly to the email, though I would still recommend using a link.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have more questions or need clarification on anything.

Hi Dean, thanks for replying to my comment, much appreciated. It looks like we have to go with EE3 since EE4 does not support the functionality that the client is asking for.

If we bought EE3 with the needed add-ons, would we be able to upgrade to EE4 later on without any problems?

Thanks.

Hi there Alex,

You can update from Event Espresso 3 to Event Espresso 4. Here is what that would look like:

1) Backup your WordPress
2) Download Event Espresso 4 from your Event Espresso account
3) Login to your WordPress admin and go to Plugins
4) Locate the Event Espresso 3 software and deactivate it
5) Click on Add New from the plugins page and upload and activate Event Espresso 4

You’ll then be prompted to migrate over your data into EE4.

EE3 via the Price Modifier addon.

How much is the Price Modifier? I tried to look for it but was unable to see any pricing.

Hi Alex,

Currently the Price Modifier Add-on is on the Pre Release Channel which you’ll need to sign up to. We have a guide posted here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/pre-release-channel-guide/

You’ll then see the available downloads under your account.
