Recently moved to VPS, and installed SSL..I had some pages forced https and some werent..two days ago I switched the entire site to https..everything works great except the toggle for “more attendees” & Shopping cart comes out empty everytime

Please check the link below

At the bottom of the page there is a red button that says “Click here to register online” when you click it, it’s supposed to take you to shopping cart, though it gives me “it looks like you are attempting to refresh a page after completing yoru registration or your cart is empty”

I check my session save path, and it’s permissions, and it’s good

I whitelisted all event espresso pages from W3 total cache

I turned cloudflare to basic caching and minimal security

Still not working

Hi,

Right click doesn’t work on your site so I can’t inspect the pages to look for errors. Is your theme calling wp_footer()?

If so, have you already tested on defaults with only Event Espresso running and other plugins temporarily deactivated?

Hi Bander,

This looks like you’ll need to check with your host and ask them to make sure that PHP sessions can be written. You’ll see that if you go to this page:

https://www.nomadarabia.com/event-registration/

And click any of the Add to Cart links, then refresh the page, the View Cart links go back to Add to Cart links. This means the session data isn’t being saved.

I checked the session data and permissions, they are working fine…I suppose it might have to do with the new theme, I will turn off right click protection now..

The session save folder is /tmp and it’s writable and the permissions are 755

You can rule out whether it’s the theme or not by temporarily testing the twentyfourteen theme with the theme test drive plugin.

Do you want me to switch Debug on??

Hi Josh I just tried theme test drive and it’s still giving the same problem..It was working until two days ago, I had specific pages SSL forced, but realized I had to make the whole site https, and when I did the shopping cart stopped working..

I have jc ccs and HTML minify switched off on both W3 Total cache and in cloudflare as well, and I whitelisted the espresso pages in W3 Total cach and I turned caching to Basic caching in Cloudflare, it’s taking longer to load now and still not giving the result I’m seeking

Hi Bander,

Sounds like the cause of the breakage might be a mismatch between the front end and back end and SSL. Can you try forcing the admin to be https? Along with that, are you using the WordPress https plugin to force the pages to be https?

Bander Radein

October 28, 2014 at 5:37 pm

Yes I’m using HTTPS plugin to force SSL, backend included..

I just realized I received two order confirmations on my email..two of my attempts to register actually got through, once had only my username and email address; it didn’t even collect required information, and the other booking had nothing in it, no name, no email nothing..But that was the only two out of close to a hundred attempts..

Hi,

There are a handful of errors appearing in Chrome developer tools. Here are a few:

http://cl.ly/image/1o002I13191O

When you activated theme test drive, were other plugins also temporarily disabled?

Hi Lorenzo I am aware of these errors, but I didn’t think they were preventing the cart from loading..The cart checkout page itself is not showing any errors at all as a matter of fact, these errors are on the event-registration page..

In any case I just deactivated both Jetpack and Oqey Gallery and I purged both local and cloudflare cache now

Bander Radein

October 28, 2014 at 6:55 pm

Wow…now that I deactivated oQey Gallery and jetpack, the toggle to add more attendees is actually working!! But the shopping cart is still not..Should I try uninstalling jetpack??

Bander Radein

October 28, 2014 at 7:21 pm

Still nothing..Removed jetpack, and deactivated a whole bunch of plugins, still same problem..The only plugins I have running now are buddypress, bbpress (without them my theme would crash) plus Event espresso, W3 Total Cache, Cloudflare plugin, updraft plus, Autochimp, Cleantalk antispam

Was this working before cloudflare was added to this site? The reason I ask is because the jQuery migrate plugin is 404’ing when it tries to load from the Cloudflare CDN.

I’ve always had cloudflare, never had a problem with it, this was working fine even in https when I forced event/registration to be https it still worked..Only when I forced the entire site to be https is when it stopped working

Hi Bander,

Can you outline the steps you took to make the change from securing only the registration pages to securing the entire site?

If you temporarily change things back does it work again?

Bander Radein

October 29, 2014 at 8:42 am

Well I needed for registered users to be able to view the calendar in https, so I needed calendar to be in https, but it wasn’t working with my old theme so I changed the theme, and it didn’t work at first, then I checked buddypress compatibility with theme and disabled bp template packs js Ajax and the theme finally worked!! and so did teh calendar..So I noticed the page performs much better in https and gives less errors, so I went into Setting => General and added an s to https in the home page address and URL, and then I unchecked the box in wordpress https plugin to force non SSL forced pages into http, now the entire page performs so much better, this is the only problem I’m having right now with the MER, the site really wouldn’t be complete without this and the shopping cart widget I really need it..

Also how can I fix these broken images?? for adding or subtracting an attendee or another event, and the ajax loader, it keeps giving a 403 and broken image..

Would it make sense to uninstall all of event espresso plugins and reinstall everything??

Currently I have cloudflare rocket loader turned on and ALL minify js css and html are off

Hi Bander,

I think adding the s to the WordPress and Site URL setting is what’s causing the breakage. Instead, please use the WP HTTPS plugin to handle this.

Bander Radein

October 29, 2014 at 3:15 pm

Ok Josh,

I left SSL active for admin pages and I turned off ALL SSL for entire site and I also deactivated a bunch of plugins, it’s seems like there might be a problem with forcing SSL on my site using wordpress https and SSL set up on my cloudflare account..I think I prefer to let cloudflare manage my SSL because then I will have secure connection between me, the visitor AND cloudflare servers..Their page says it should take up to five minutes to see the green padlock, but it’s not showing up, further documentation say I need to contact their support and get a meta tag that I need to add to the header of my root directory?? Yet on my cloudflare dashboard it says I have active Full SSL Strict with a green button that says active..I’m a little confused on what to do??

Bander Radein

October 29, 2014 at 3:16 pm

I forgot to mention the cart is finally working now, though I want to figure out this SSL issue before I start reactivating some of these plugins..

Bander Radein

October 29, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Dear Josh,

I turned off all SSL plugins, I think it is correct there was conflict between these plugins and SSL set up on cloudflare, so now I have https activated through cloudflare ONLY..

The only thing remaining is the little broken images, the ajax loader image and the large loader and the red negative sign for removing an attendee or removing an event from the cart…How can I fix those broken images??

thanks

Hi Bander,

So here’s a link to one of the images that’s not loading:

https://www.nomadarabia.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/ajax-loader.gif

Here’s the error in the console:

403 (Forbidden)
