I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve added and activated the plugin. Then I followed instructions in the documentation: “Your social media accounts can be enabled by browsing to Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Your Organization. Once on the Your Organization screen, scroll down and locate the Social Links options.” This is where I get stuck. don’t see any Social Links options. There only customization under Social Links header is the URL of your social media pages. I have my Facebook set up, but then what? How do I actually add Facebook icon to the registration pages? Thanks!

Hi,

Once you have added the details into the settings, the social buttons will appear once some one has registered for the event, as per the documentation “The initial version of the add-on allows social sharing after registration.”

Dean, I understand the concept, but there is no Facebook icon or anything else after registration. Once a user clicks “Finalize Payment”, he is taken to Paypal, and from there he can choose to come back to the site and is taken to the Thank You page, which just has text. What am I missing? Do I need to set it up on the Thank You page?

Hi,

Are you running the latest version of Event Espresso 4 at 4.4.6 and is the events social sharing add-on activated on your site?

The social link fields look like this:

Yes, Lorenzo, that’s what I have. I’ve only filled out Facebook, as I’m not using Twitter. And yes, the Events Social Sharing plugin is activated. As I posted above, once a user clicks “Finalize Payment”, he is taken to Paypal, and from there he can choose to come back to the site and is taken to the Thank You page, which just has text. What am I missing? Do I need to set it up on the Thank You page?

Hi, this add-on runs on its own once it is activated and you have social links setup. Could you confirm that your critical pages for Event Espresso are set correctly?

WP-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Critical Pages

You mentioned that your thank you page only has text. That does not sound like the thank you page for Event Espresso 4.

Here are the screenshots of the Critical Pages and Thank You page. Looks ok to me:

Your page should look like this:

http://cl.ly/image/2v2f2S0d1u47

Have you seen anything similar to what is on that page before?

Definitely not looking like that, all I get is Thank you and text I added. Before I added text it was just Thank you and nothing else… The website got recently migrated from another hosting company to GoDaddy, and they may have missed some files in the process, wouldn’t be surprised. Anything you can recommend doing to get the page looking how it’s supposed to?

Hi,

Please try a re-install of your software. Begin by backing up your WordPress:

https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

Next, download the latest version of your Event Espresso software from your account:

https://eventespresso.com/users/vlioznyansky/

Now login to your WordPress admin and go to Plugins. Locate Event Espresso in the list of plugins and deactivate it. Then remove the plugin.

Now, from the WP Plugins screen, click on Add New –> Upload. Then browse to the new zip file that you downloaded from your account. Select it and begin the upload process.

You can activate Event Espresso after it has finished.

I have lots of events on the site right now that parents are registering for. If I follow your process, will I lose all of my events and registrations?

No, they won’t be lost since a re-install removes and replaces the files. However, you should still backup your site.

I’ve also changed Default Message Templates (email text that registrants receive). Will those be overwritten with original text?

Those are stored in the database, not in the files so those should not be lost.

I’ve done everything: backed up, deactivated and removed the plugin, downloaded the most recent plug in, installed and activated it. Thank You page is still not working correctly. Exactly the same as it was on my screenshot – just Thank You title and a paragraph of text. What else can I try?

Hi,

Could you try trashing the page, then deleting it permanently, and creating a new one and adding the correct shortcode?

Then be sure to enable that page through Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Critical Pages.

Did that, didn’t help. I even permanently deleted my Thank You page, then deleted Event Espresso plugin, reinstalled it, made sure Thank You page was added (and it only had the slug line, none of my custom text), then tested the registration again. All I get is an empty page with Thank You at the top.

Hi,

Does this work on a default theme or are you seeing the same issue there as well? I’ve re-tested the add-on with our latest release and it is working.

I’m not sure how to check if it works on a default theme. Does it make a difference that I have SSL installed on my site? Could that be a problem?

Victoria Lioznyansky

December 11, 2014 at 11:13 pm

Could the issue be the “events” slug? I’ve actually changed it to say “register”, and I could have messed something up in the process. Even though registration is working perfectly, I wonder if my Thank You issue has something to do with that? What should I check to make sure I have everything set up correctly? Here is my registration page: https://nuttyscientistshouston.com/register/. If I edit this page, this is the only line of code I have:
[ESPRESSO_EVENTS order_by=”event_name,id” limit=”0″ category_slug=”uncategorized”]
Thanks!

Hi,

That should not affect it. Please install and activate the Theme test drive plugin:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-test-drive/

It will allow you to use a different theme than what your website visitors see.

For example, your visitors will see your original theme and you’ll see a different theme on your site like Twenty Twelve.

Use this plugin to enable a default WP theme. Then try testing again.

You can deactivate it after testing.

My registration doesn’t work with any of the installed themes, as it turns out. I guess something is messed up with events. Here is the screenshot of the message I got when I clicked Register Now: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7wVCwJ9lKCJWXd4dE5Ea2pubVE/view?usp=sharing

Please disregard the previous post, I’ve messed up something in the code. Just fixed it, and ran the Twenty Twelve test theme again. This time everything worked: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7wVCwJ9lKCJRXBEaUVIRk1Ibzg/view?usp=sharing. I got the correct Thank You page and Social Media Sharing plugin at the bottom. So does it means there is something wrong with the theme I’m using? What can I look for?

Hi, could you provide a zipped copy of the latest version of your theme to the address below?

support [at] eventespresso.com

We’ll take a look at it on a testing site.

Will do, thank you! What folders do I need to grab to send you the entire theme?

Hi, if this is a theme that you downloaded (either free or part of a support purchase), then you could download a new copy and email it to us.

Otherwise, please grab a copy from this location using an SFTP or FTP client such as FileZilla or Cyberduck:

/wp-content/themes/yourthemefolder

Then you can zip that folder and email to us here:

Hi, you can fix this issue by commenting out or removing this line from your theme’s functions.php file:

define(‘THANK_YOU_TEMPLATES_PATH’,get_template_directory() . ‘/event-expresso/’);
