Hey there,

Can you add this link to your First Data E4 settings in the Image URL field?

Hi there,

I’m not clear on what you’re asking us to fix. Have you tried going into the Event Espresso > Payment Settings, and then copy the URL you posted above into the button image URL field?

Yes I pasted it into the button image URL. I get the first data image when doing a transaction. Why???

Hi, please double-check the button field and image field.

The button field is used for the payment button during checkout. The other is used as the logo on the payment page.

You’ll also need to save changes to the payment option after updating the button URL:

Another thing that you can check for is any customized First Data E4 gateway files over in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/gateways. If anyone on your team made a copy of an older copy of the First Data E4 gateway and placed the copy in the /uploads/ folder, it will load from there. Any fixes we make (like the fix we made to the First Data E4 gateway button) will not load if you’re loading in customized templates instead of ours.

No there is nothing in the folder /wp-content/uploads/espresso/gateways. It is empty.

So the bottom line is this. Even though this link http://freetorun.net/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/gateways/pay-by-credit-card.png is in the correct field during a transaction the FirstData link is displayed. Isn’t that a BUG?
I had this issue a few years ago, check my history.

After you changed the button URL, did you click the button that says: Update FirstData E4 Settings? The reason I ask is because I’m not able to reproduce your bug.

NOTES FROM 2 YEARS AGO – At which time I requested a fix
September 23, 2013 at 2:11 pm
Thanks for sending those.
I took a look at the settings and they are all set correctly. The reason why the First Data logo button displays on the payment page (even when you leave the payment button field blank) is Event Espresso can’t find the generic credit card image.
How it works is there is a function in Event Espresso that checks first to see if there is anything custom set for the button, and if there is it checks to make sure it’s there by using the fopen PHP function. Some servers will have allow_url_fopen disabled, which is the case here. So when it can’t find the image it uses the default button as a fallback.
This can be remedied in a few ways:
1) Talk to your your host about the possibility of turning on allow_URL_fopen.
or
2) Upload a different default image to fall back to so instead of it loading up the First Data button it loads up the generic credit card button image. I’ve already done this since I was already FTP’ed in. Note: Each time you update Event Espresso this will need to be re-done. So basically the file at wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/gateways/firstdata_e4/firstdata-logo.png is now a copy of pay-by-credit-card.png.

OK _ This fixed it! But I still think its a bug and not an issue with my provider.

It’s not a bug, since your host doesn’t have allow_url_fopen, Event Espresso will load the alternate button.

Can you ask your host to enable the allow_url_fopen function? If not, the fix cannot be permanently applied and someone will need to apply the same temporary fix each time you update.
