Hi ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw a thread about this recently https://eventespresso.com/topic/event-espresso-screwed-up-my-wp-admin/ that shows this message:

We’re sorry, but Event Espresso requires PHP version 5.3.0 or greater in order to operate. You are currently running version 5.2.17.
In order to update your version of PHP, you will need to contact your current hosting provider.
For information on stable PHP versions, please go to http://php.net/downloads.php.

I have the same problem. I can’t access my dashboard at all. What actions can I take to be able to remove the plugin without having to rename the folder? Apparently, I have no access to the hosting account because I wasn’t given any. ๐Ÿ™ The website I have actually serves as a “testbed.”

While waiting for my friend to give me the hosting access, can you kindly explain as to why the WP-Dashboard is no longer accessible when in fact it should have been accessible as mentioned by Lorenzo on the previous thread? Appreciate those who would help ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Camille,

If you can not see your Dashboard where do you currently see that message?

What exactly can you see? Maybe upload a screenshot so we can see the same.

What actions can I take to be able to remove the plugin without having to rename the folder?

The only way to disable the plugin without access to the Dashboard it by renaming the plugins folder.

While waiting for my friend to give me the hosting access, can you kindly explain as to why the WP-Dashboard is no longer accessible when in fact it should have been accessible as mentioned by Lorenzo on the previous thread?

I’m assuming you see just a whitescreen? If so there are many possible causes, however to find out you need to enable WP_DEBUG on the file so the server will display errors on the screen for you to see.

To enable WP_DEBUG you need to edit a file on the server called wp-config.php which you currently can not.

Hi, Tony!

Thanks for your reply. Here is the screenshot you’re asking ๐Ÿ™‚

No matter what I click on the right panel, nothing shows up on the negative space other than the message. I’m embarrassed to show more at the bottom. I tried lots of plugins. LOL.

It’s not that I don’t see the whole dashboard. No, not necessarily. I just can’t access my dashboard. I can’t navigate.

Nonetheless, thanks for trying to help, Tony ๐Ÿ™‚

I won’t tell anyone ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok, so the error you see is because the server is running and older version of PHP that doesn’t support features that EE4 is using which is why you see the notice from above. (I know that sounds obvious but wanted to confirm with the error message)

As a minimum requirement the server needs to be running PHP 5.3 to use Event Espresso, your server runs 5.2.17 and so throws the fatal error.

If you go to Dashboards -> Plugins do you see a list of Plugins? Can you de-activate EE4 from there?

If not your going to need FTP access to the server (or something similar like cPanel access to use its file manager) to rename the plugin directory and disable EE.

Your host will need to update the version of PHP used if you want to use EE on that site.

I wonโ€™t tell anyone ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh. Thanks for that. Hah! :))

Yeah, I’ve been told. Been researching about it earlier this morning.

Oh. I can’t access anything even under Plugin, apparently. But I managed to talk to my friend already ๐Ÿ™‚ He has given me access now. And also, he has now updated the version of PHP. Hurrah!

Hmm. Well, that being said… the question as to why I can’t access WP-Dashboard is still unanswered… BAFFLING!

Thanks you for your help, Tony ๐Ÿ™‚ REALLY appreciate it. Have a great day!

Hmm. Well, that being saidโ€ฆ the question as to why I canโ€™t access WP-Dashboard is still unansweredโ€ฆ BAFFLING!

Ah sorry, I didn’t answer that.

Its actually ‘normal’ although not desired. WordPress is loading the plugins within admin, getting to Event Espresso, hitting the line of code that it doesn’t support and basically…. imploding on itself ๐Ÿ™‚

Fatal Errors basically mean that PHP stops what its doing and says ‘Well something is wrong and I’m not going any further until its fixed!’. So as you travel through the Dashboard it loads each section and all plugins, hits EE, hits that function and stops. So then other parts of the Dashboard stop loading like in the case of the plugin menu, its loading EE and breaking before loading the plugin list for you to de-active.

Make sense?

You see this on the front end of the site as a whitescreen (in WordPress its called White Screen Of Death – WSOD) often due to plugin conflicts or the sites memory being exhausted. Google WSOD and you’ll find many different tutorials all explain different steps.

Thanks you for your help, Tony ๐Ÿ™‚ REALLY appreciate it. Have a great day!

No Problem, and you too.
