"You need a valid Site License Key to enable automatic upgrades" problem

Automatic upgrade isn’t working. I get the message, “You need a valid Site License Key to enable automatic upgrades,” even thought I have a valid key and on the site here, my “Account” page says:

“Site License Keys:

These are all the site_license keys assigned to you for enabling automatic updates of plugins you’ve obtained from us …”

I currently have 3.1.29.1.P and also Version 1.0.4 of the Multi-Event plugins active.

Thanks – wg

Hi there,

Let’s try a new key. If you head over to your account page, there will be a shiny new one waiting for you to copy and paste into the key field at the bottom of your Event Espresso>General Settings page.

Please note: If you’re running a multi-site installation of WP, the license key system wasn’t really designed/intended to work with multi-site. If that’s the case, you can manually update by downloading the new version from your account page.

This is really strange …

I updated the site key and at first I got a message that the plugin couldn’t be updated. Then I refreshed the page and now it doesn’t even indicate that the their is an update at all.

I’m running Version 3.1.29.1.P

I’m not running multi-site. This is just a standard WP install.

Thanks – Wayde

Also, on my “Account” page … it is saying that the new key is Not Active (even though I did update the site with it).

thanks

Hi there,

It doesn’t look like the key got saved from our end. This is a new key, and since you’re on 3.1.29.1, you haven’t updated yet.

Here’s how you can fix this:

Go to Event Espresso> General Settings and remove the license key by deleting the entire key and saving the page.

Then go to your account page and copy then paste the new key in the Event Espresso>General settings page. Then save. It might take a minute or two for your site to ping our servers, you might be able to speed that up by saving that Event Espresso>General Settings page a second time.

I get this message:

> “There is a new version of Event Espresso available. View What’s New with version 3.1.30.5.P. You need a valid Site License Key to enable
> automatic upgrades. Your current membership level does not allow
> automatic upgrades on more than one domain”

I then went to the “Updates” section underneath the dashboard and tried to update the plugin. It fails with this exception:

> “An error occurred while updating Event Espresso: Update package not available..”

Anyhow, the site license key is for this domain (mavsbball.com) so I’m still not sure why the auto-update isn’t working. Thanks for the help.

I wish I could but I can’t. I’m just going to do a manual upgrade … is there any particular steps I need to take outside of uploading/activing the latest version and then deactivating the old one?

Understood.

Just follow these steps and you should be fine: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/

Hello, I’m having a similar problem as wgilliam. I get that message but my site key is in my Event Espresso settings in WordPress and I double checked it when I logged into my Ev.Esp. account. Should I “request new key” via that green button on my Ev.Esp. page or is there something else I should do? Thanks!

@kadolfson,

I gave you a new key. Can you try the new one?

kadolfson: I was never able to get this resolved. Went back and forth with new keys, wasted hours, and finally resolved myself to doing a manual update.

Personally, I’ll be looking at other registration plugins for other clients as I’ve had difficulty in the past getting everything to behave properly (especially when you add in multi-registration for example). Not sure what else is out there … only using this with one client because that is what they are used too, for now.

Hi wgilliam,

I’m sorry to hear about this. With the auto update issue, normally reseting a key will resolve the issue. Sometimes it happens where the server is blocking the communication between our server and the site. We’ve been trying to work through each case and the automatic upgrades do work for the majority of setups.

With your Multi Event Registration issue, what’s wrong?

Hi,

I’ve also started to have this problem. I’ve only ever upgraded the plugin once in the past and that was manually. This has started to pop up recently and I’ve checked and double checked the key but I’m still seeing the notice.

What can I do?

Thanks.

@aashfaq I have reset your license key. Please remove the key from the field in your settings, save, then reenter the key and save again.

Still getting this message:

There is a new version of Event Espresso available. View What’s New with version 3.1.30.7.P. You need a valid Site License Key to enable automatic upgrades. Your current membership level does not allow automatic upgrades on more than one domain. Please log into your account to manage your Site License Keys or purchase a support license now.

Could it be perhaps because the key is set to the directory ‘site’ whereas the the website itself is reached by the domain only? This was never a problem before so wondering why it is now?

@josh Thank you for issuing me a new site key – that worked perfectly and I was able to upgrade the plugin without having to do it manually.

@ aashfaq

It may be that the older site still has the key entered into the key field, so there are two sites pinging our server.

What I’ll do is remove your existing key and assign you a new one.

Still getting the same exception. This is getting old.

“You have the correct Site License Key for Event Espresso but your current membership access only allows for automatic upgrades on one domain. Please log into your account to manage your Site License Keys or purchase a support license now.”

Wgilliam,

I am sorry for the trouble.

I have reset your license key. Please remove the key from the field in your settings, save, then reenter the key and save again.

If you are still having issues, it may be because the license key is still installed on another domain. Let me know and I will issue a new key.
