Hello, we installed the WordPress HTTPS plugin reccomended by you guys on this article. https://eventespresso.com/wiki/espresso-sslhttps/

We chose to only put the SSL on specific pages. Our “two” very important question are the following:

1. Does that plugin create 301 redirects? We looked in the .htaccess and did not see any.

2. If it doesn’t automatically create 301 redirects for the pages specified in the URL Filters section of the plugin, DO WE NEED to create 301 redirects to make sure search engines are happy?

Example: Do we need to create 301 redirect like this:
http://artsyrose.com/camps/ to redirect to https://artsyrose.com/camps/

Hi Lisa,

With WP HTTPS, if you secure a page using the plugin and someone browses to the HTTP version, then they will be automatically sent to the HTTPS version.

You would not need to setup a separate redirect for that.

Hi Lorenzo,
Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I see the pages automatically redirecting, but what I’m worried about is making sure Google or other search engines know to crawl the https version now.

Basically to make sure they know it’s a permanent change with a 301 redirect.

These are the pages we put in the URL filters section of the wordpress plugin that Event Espresso recommended.

/events/
/thank-you/
/registration-checkout/
/page-with-ticket-selector-shortcode/
/transactions/
/registration-cancelled/
/sips-swirls/
/camps/
/youth-classes/
/adult-classes/

The plugin is redirecting to the HTTPS version, however how will search engines know to crawl those pages without a 301 redirect setup?

Also, honestly, would you guys advise just making the entire website HTTPS since it seems to be what will be happening in the future after reading google article https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6073543?hl=en

And if that answer is yes, how will we tell the search engines that every page and post should be crawled in the HTTPS version?

Hello,

That will be automatically updated in their index over time as the search engines are not blocked from viewing HTTPS pages.

Okay I figured out the answer by using a redirect online checker.

Hopefully this support post will help others who decide to use the WordPress HTTPS (SSL) plugin recommended by you guys on this article. https://eventespresso.com/wiki/espresso-sslhttps/

Final Answer from very first question on this post.
///””We chose to only put the SSL on specific pages. Our “two” very important question are the following:””////

The answer to this is “YES”. To make sure you can check on http://www.redirect-checker.org/ . We did not see any 301 redirects in our own .htaccess file but obviously after checking the 301 redirects were setup by this plugin.

Thanks again, your guys tutorial made it easy to setup correctly.
