Which version and license is best for my client?

Hi,
Background: I’m evaluating Expresso for a client. She’s currently on WordPress 3.7.1, but I’ll be upgrading her to 3.8.1. She’s hosted on GoDaddy. So far, I’ve only installed and tested Expresso Lite on my own local dev box. So far, I’m impressed. Before going further, I want to be sure I choose the right version and license for her.

Her must haves: event calendar, multiple payment methods, social media integration, ability to auto-restrict number of seats sold per event, customization of event styles to blend into existing site (beyond just changing the colors, as with free version), reCAPTCHA. Oh, and she wants to avoid “death by a thousand cuts” due to having to pay for add-ons that most any site would need 😉

Nice to haves: MailChimp integration, easy access to contact and historical info for all event registrants.

I do not see a need for much customization or support once the event registration has been set up.

I assume the event calendar requirement rules out version 4? I don’t think she’ll go for the Business license – too much for her budget. With the Personal license ($89.95), will any of the above must-haves require purchase of an add-on? What are the major differences between these two license?

I do not believe there are separate support and product licenses, correct? Are there any non-add-on features (e.g. reCAPTCHA) that only work if you have a particular version of the license?

What goes away/stops working if she decides not to renew at end of year?
I’ve read that there may be issues for Expresso (and other plugins) installed on WordPress sites hosted on GoDaddy. Are the issues major? Are they common?

Hi Tim,

Thank you for contacting us! We appreciate your interest in Event Espresso. Thank you for explaining your needs.

I think that the EE3 Personal License ($89.95) and the MailChimp add-on ($24.95) will be what you need. I think everything else you need is included in the Personal License.

The issues with GoDaddy can be major. GoDaddy is unpredictable. We have had customers tell us that GoDaddy made changes to their server (without informing the customer) and now their Event Espresso or even WordPress installation is not working. The performance of a WordPress site of GoDaddy is subpar, to keep it nicely. We recommend using HostGator or Bluehost if you are looking for cheap hosting options.
