Visual Editor loosing Heading Format dropdown menu when scrolling

Hello, On an edit event page, when working with text in the visual editor I am loosing the ability to select formatting from the formatting dropdown in the toolbar. This happens when the page is scrolled down and the sticky header (with the visual editor toolbar) appears. Before scrolling, when I am just working with text at the top of the content area then I am able to select the dropdown menu and then select the various headings or paragraph formats. However when you scroll down to lower content then right after the toolbar converts to the sticky toolbar then you loose the ability to use the dropdown. It does not drop down and can not be selected.

I am using the avada theme. In the rest of the admin areas the visual editor has its own scrollbar so this is not ever an issue. the content scrolls under the toolbar and so it never converts to the sticky toolbar. On the Event Espresso Event Edit page the visual editor does not have scroll bars. It uses the browser scroll bars.

Can you please help me with this. I am setting this up for a client who needs to be able to format the text with the visual editor and can not use html in the text mode.

This works for me when I switch to the Avada Theme on a testing site. Can you try temporarily deactivating all other plugins to check whether it’s a plugin conflict that’s affecting the format drop down menu?

Sorry, it took me a while to get to this. I deactivated all of the plugins (except EE) but the problem did not go away. I was able to see another clue as to what is happening. When you scroll up, right at the point where the text edit menu transforms into the sticky menu then the pull down menu appears to be positioned up under the browser tool bar. When you scroll down further and try to access it the menu displays higher up. Eventually when you have scrolled down further than the height of the pull down menu then it is completely hidden and not accessible.

I am having the same issue in Firefox and Safari.

May I ask which version of the Avada theme is active? If you temporarily switch away from the Avada theme does the issue continue to happen? (you can use the theme test drive plugin to do a quick test on another WordPress theme)

I am using Avada 4.03. I installed the theme test drive plugin and switched to theme Twenty Fifteen and the problem continues to happen.

Are all of the other plugins deactivated while you have twenty fifteen active?

Yes. Do you want to try logging in to check it out?

You can complete the secure form on this page and we’ll take a look.

Hi there,

I checked and I’m not seeing anything out of order there on your site. The visual editor’s toolbar isn’t actually sticky on the editor page, i.e. when you scroll past the content box the bar scrolls with the editor box.

I looked in and saw the test event that you created. It does not have any content in the content box. To get the sticky toolbar to appear on the content box you need to enter more content than can fit in the content box. Then when you scroll down the toolbar will transform to a sticky toolbar until you reach the bottom of the content.

I added some content to your test event. Could you please go back in and try it again? If it is still working ok for you then maybe it is a system conflict. I am on a mac with OS10.11.3

It’s not a system conflict. What you’re seeing is part of the full-height editor in WordPress. You can disable that feature by heading over to WP > Posts then go to edit any post, then you click on the Screen options tab (on the upper right corner of the window), then you uncheck the box next to where it says “Enable full-height editor and distraction-free functionality.”
