Use of PayPal (Not PayPal Pro) not updating status of guest for event

I am using PayPal, not PayPal Pro to have people buy their way into events on our website (sandiegoparent.com), however, when people pay and come back to the website it tells them their registration is “incomplete”. How can I make it so when they come back from the paypal website, it shows their registration as “complete” and thus making it also complete in the backend of wordpress. I found somewhat of an answer on here but it was for PayPal Pro, not just the regular PayPal gateway.

thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hi there,

You’ll likely need to set up the PayPal Instant Payment Notification by using this guide:

Hi Josh,

I did all that stuff and everything works great it is just the communication back from pay pal which is not telling it someone has “completed” their registration. It is the oddest thing and frankly very frustrating for my boss who is having to go in manually each time she gets a registration email to mark them as complete.

What else is there to do? Can someone look for me to see what the issue might be?

Any help is appreciated.
thanks!

Does the setting “Default Payment Status” have anything to do with it? Right now the default payment status is marked as “incomplete” until payment is received. That to me says that their registration should be changed once PayPal sends confirmation that they paid…..is this correct? When they pay, when would the status change?

Hi,

The “Default Payment Status” is correct, having the users marked as incomplete until payment received.

It might be worth trying the stripped down trasnaction page template, please see here https://eventespresso.com/topic/problems-with-incomplete-payments-download/

ok, I downloaded that TXN page and made it the template for my transactions page, however, it didn’t do anything and the status wasn’t updated as “complete” in the backend.

After looking at that link you sent me to, near the bottom, a gentlemen asked about a “log” folder. I do not see a log folder in uploads/espresso……could this be the issue? does there ned to be a log folder there?

I am perplexed and don’t know what the issue could be. It is frustrating for my boss to be updating each payment status manually. 🙁

Your server may be blocking the Instant Payment Notification from PayPal. T

There’s a list of IP addresses that need to be allowed by your server’s firewall if there is one in place:
