Hi there,
Few weeks ago I upgraded from EE3 to EE4 and had some issues which I ended up with restoring bad to EE3. The main issue was EE was not responding at all and it turned up that I hadn’t deactivate EE3 before activating EE4.
Now my question is Is it possible for you gurus to show me an step by step for upgrading to EE4? here is what I think:
1- deactivate EE3
2-Upload and activate EE4
3-Migrate the data to EE4
and everything should be fine.
Is there anything else that I should do? Or are these step correct? If not can you please show me the right way? I don’t want to restore back and the site is live and tickets are selling.
Thank you so much in advance
Ted

Hi there Ted,

Those are the steps that I would follow. Please do backup WordPress before making any changes.

One other point is that shortcodes for Event Espresso 3 won’t work with Event Espresso 4. Are you currently using any of these on your site?

Thank you Lorenzo, and yes I use some of the short codes in my website. As an example is registration page, Thank you Page, etc..
My next question is Do I have to go back and change all the pages and their short codes? How about the custom questions that I have made, or the payment methods and information, or Venue, or custom emails, etc..
Do I have to recreate everything?
Cheers,
Ted

Hi Ted,

The shortcodes for the Event Espresso core pages are fine. You won’t need to recreate your questions or question groups or venues.

What payment gateways are you currently using in version 3?

Currently I use Paypal, Cheque, and Invoice.
I have several customized emails are they going to transfer over?

Those payment gateways are all available in Event Espresso 4. I would copy out the email templates to a text file.

That is cool. How about the custom questions and question groups? And I used short codes in some posts that shows the event do I need to change those ones?
Sorry for all these questions!

Single event shortcodes won’t work so those would need to be updated to the ticket selector shortcode. This is available in the help & support tab in Event Espresso.

Questions and question groups are migrated.

That is fantastic, and thank you so much for your help. Wish me luck as I am going to upgrade this time following your direction. I am waiting for backup to complete.

You shouldn’t have any problems with the ticket selector shortcode.

Could you share a link to the blog post or could you send that link to the email below:

If you email the link, please be sure to include a link to this support post.
