Tried to update from 3.1.37.8.P. to version 3.1.37.8.P. Received very large error message starting with – The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. tpc, includes, templates, scripts, post-type-samples,….

We are using WP version 4.5.3

Hi there,

That error message is shown by WordPress when it can’t access files/directories during updates and is usually (but not always) due to permissions set on your server.

The same version number for EE is listed twice above, could you confirm which version your are updating from and to please?

Hi there,

You can refer to the information on the following pages to apply the correct file permissions.

I am curious as to why all of a sudden I can not longer make updates to EE. I had no issues with previous updates and I am able to update all plugins except EE.

You might find the answer to your question if you check the file/folder permissions there. Or maybe your host can check those.

What are the recommended file permissions for EE3. We have a very picky systems administrator when it comes to file permissions and making files accessible in intrusion.

Hello,

Event Espresso does not require any specific permissions as compared to other WordPress plugins.

During the update process, the existing files and folders are removed and then they are replaced with the new files and folders.

We have steps on this page on how to manually update via the WP dashboard or through SFTP or FTP:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#update-event-espresso-3

One of those options should get you on the right track.
