Unable to Edit Cart Items after EE8 Update, Promotions Not Displaying

Hello,

We just updated to 4.8.6. and added the Promotions & Discount Codes plugin and are having two issues, one which may be related to the upgrade and one which seems to be specific to the promotions plugin.

First, after the update, I noticed when testing the event registration that it is no longer possible to make changes to the events cart except for adding addition events after clicking “view cart.”

Clicking the delete button, the minus symbol, the plus symbol, the empty event cart button, or the update event cart button on the “view event cart” page now does none of the actions specified, but will only bring the user back up to the very top of the page.
See page: https://refitshow.com/registration-checkout/?event_cart=view#checkout

Also, after clicking “proceed to registration” users can no longer get back to the events cart. Clicking on “return to event cart” will only bring the user back up to the very top of the registration page.
See page: https://refitshow.com/registration-checkout/

Second, the promotions and discount codes plugin does not seem to be functioning, but it may be that I have not fully entered and activated the promos and related codes correctly. The plugin is activated, and two promo code-based discounts have been added, show as green for active in the legend, and are associated with the appropriate event.

The codes and corresponding percent discount amount have been entered as well as valid to and from dates. “Ribbon banner” has been selected as the display and appropriate text has been entered in the banner description box for each event.

However, adding the shortcode [ESPRESSO_PROMOTIONS] to a page does nothing, no promotions show up, so either the promotions are not actually active or something else is wrong.

Please let us know what can be done to resolve these issues.

Thank you.

This is the events page where users initially add tickets: https://refitshow.com/event-selection/

Hi Nicole,

Can you test out the cart edit with the default WordPress theme? There may be a theme conflict with the cart functions.

With the banners not displaying a promotion, it turns out the banners do not display information about promotional discount codes. The banners and shortcode will only display promotions that are automatically applied.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for your response. Can you clarify what this sentence below means and where I would change the applicable setting?

“The banners and shortcode will only display promotions that are automatically applied.”

I don’t see any fields in admin when setting up the promotions that appear to relate to how the promotion is applied. Also, I’m not clear what “automatically applied” means. If automatically applied, the promotions would still be dependent on a promotional code to activate the discount, correct?

In regard to the cart edit, our concern is that these issues were not occurring prior to the update, so the conflict appears to be related to the most recent update of EE4.

We can definitely put additional time into testing with the default theme, but before putting that time in, we’d like to know what the plan would be if we do find out that there is an issue with the updated EE4 and our existing theme. For instance, would we need to downgrade to the previous version of EE4 (or is that possible?)

What we would ideally like to do is have everything functioning as it was prior to the update with our existing site and theme, as we have already put a lot of work into setting things up as they are.

We appreciate all additional clarification to help us proceed in addressing these issues.

Many thanks.

Just a quick note, we updated to Version 4.8.7.p today, but the issues persist.

Hi Nicole,

I can clarify the difference between a coded discount and an automatic discount. When you go to create a promotion and you leave the Promo Code field blank, all eligible registrations will get the discount. No code is input at checkout to get the discount, it’s automatic. These automatic discounts are the promotions that get displayed.

Regarding your theme and the update, if you find that the cart functions as expected with a default WordPress theme we can work with you on troubleshooting and fixing your WordPress theme.

Thank you for your reply.

In regard to the promotions; if only an automatic discount will display, how do we utilize the promo code discounts so that they display and users can view and utilize them? I could not find clarification for this on your site unless the tutorial has been updated since I last checked.

I would still appreciate a response to my question as to whether we can download the previous version of EE4 if we test and find that the current updated version is not compatible. As I mentioned, we have put a great deal of time into the site as is and cannot start from scratch if it turns out the current EE4 is not going to function correctly:

To clarify, this would be very helpful: “we can work with you on troubleshooting and fixing your WordPress theme.”

But I am concerned, given the fact that our event is approaching quickly, that the troubleshooting would take more time than we can spare, hence my request to find out if we can download the previous version.

Thanks again for your help.

We set up a dummy site and confirmed that it is our theme conflicting with the updated EE8.

We are running Divi and updated our theme and all plugins as of this morning. Please let me know what other information would be helpful.

As I mentioned, we are anxious to get our ticketing up and running. Please provide any information you have available on what we can do to resolve this as quickly as possible (including the possibility of utilizing a previous version of EE4, as the last did not conflict).

Thanks again.

This may or may not be helpful, but I should point out that this site is hosted on a GoDaddy Managed WordPress account.

I notice that your support wiki states that GoDaddy is listed as “not recommended” for hosting with EE4:
https://eventespresso.com/wiki/known-third-party-plugin-theme-conflicts/

Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about that, so hopefully whether it is the Divi theme or our hosting, this can be resolved.

Hi Nicole, thanks for letting us know. Event Espresso 4 is not compatible with Godaddy’s managed hosting plan because they currently force caching.

You can continue to use Godaddy but you’ll need to switch to a hosting plan that does not force cache and you could even use a plugin like WP super cache with one of their other hosting plans.

There are also managed WP hosts like WP Engine who are compatible with WordPress sites with an ecommerce functionality as they allow you to request no-caching rules for certain WordPress pages.
