Transfer registration / temp registration for development

We have been running Event Espresso for a couple of years. WE have been developing a new web site that will be deployed in ~30 days. We have installed Event Espresso on the new site (which is a temp ip address) and would like a temp reg so we can tweak as needed for the deployment in the near future. I paid the $179 fee to get support, but I don’t see any way to submit a support ticket?

In addition, we are hesitating to upgrade the program since we had to do a number of hard code hacks to get the program to sort correctly (seem my posts elsewhere). Hopefully that is not a problem.

Please let me know the best way to move forward.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch. If you are actively developing your new WordPress site, then you should not enter your site license key.

The site license key should be used on a live / production site.

We handle support through these forums. You can create new support requests through this link: https://eventespresso.com/topic-form/. Then enter a title and a description of the problem and select the forum to post your question to.

Additionally, you can go to the primary forums link here: https://eventespresso.com/support/forums/ and click on Start a Topic.

Event Espresso 4 is a major upgrade over Event Espresso 3 so I would definitely stage the upgrade on a development site to work out any issues with custom coding. Please see this post for an overview on EE4:

Cheers

Lorenzo

1.) We have copied the db and tweaked files over to the dev server. We need to make it functional to confirm the app is working properly, connected to the db, etc. This is temporary until we move the new site to the existing domain.

2.) This is a large company with high expectations. If we deploy the live site without the Events working, we will look incompetent (and we would be). It is a rather complex WP site and it is critical Events Espresso is working properly when we deploy. I’m sure you deal with this issue all the time?

Without the reg the app doesn’t work so we cannot make certain everything is working, right? If there is a way to do this without the reg on the dev copy, please tell me.

3.) I can appreciate that the new version is better. I was quite taken back that the version I installed did not correctly sort events and required hacking to get it to function properly. That was a known problem to the EE techs. That is one of the reasons I hesitate to start again. As I recall, The days sorted correctly, but the times under the days were out of sequence. There was at least one other tweak. Once working, it has worked great for ~2 years.

4.) Does the 4.0 version sort correctly using days and then times?

Hello again,

Your current site license key is running on this site:

http://www.greenflashbrew.com/blog

Would you like me to release it so that you can use it on your development site?

Also, I’m not familiar with any sorting issues in Event Espresso 4 but I’d be happy to test this out and get back to you. Were you running into this issue on the Events list page or another WordPress page that have an Event Espresso shortcode on it?

Thanks

Lorenzo

Somehow I’m not getting the answers I need. I don’t know how to clarify any further. Yes, Greenflash is the customer. WE are building an entirely new site which will be deployed in ~30 days or so. We cannot test to confirm that everything is working without a license. I have worked with many other software providers in this situation and they just give me an additional license for 30 days so we can be ready to deploy. We don’t want to deploy AND THEN start tweaking Event Espresso to make sure it works. It is used for scheduling brewery tours and it is in use constantly.I can PM the URL to the dev site if that will help clarify.

As for sorting, just search the forum. Especially my posts. Others had the same problem and hard code was the answer.

Please kick this issue up to a manager.

Another possible solution. We are now planning to upgrade to 4.0. Will it run for 30 days without registration so we can keep the old version up? If so, that solves our problem.

Hi Amansker,

There is no need for a second license because the license key does not affect functionality. The only time you need the license key is if you need official support and/or one-click upgrades to that domain. So you can use EE on a dev/live platform without a license key. Does that make sense? Do your concerns have to do with those two things?

Yes, that makes sense. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading the question. I have another developer working on this project and I did not think it would function without a license. We decided to use the 4.0 version on the new site. Based on what you are saying, we can install 4 and it will function properly on the dev server? When deployed, we will reissue the license. Does this sound correct? thanks!

That’s correct. 🙂 Request us to reset your license key from your account page.
