I have installed and configured Better WP Security on my site and cannot login to the API with the Android app my error is… “Unable to login. Check Web Connection or EndPoint URL.”

I am pretty sure this is due to Better WP Security Being installed and configured.

Can you tell me what settings I need to change to get the Android and iOS apps to login?

Hi,

Have you checked the URL, username and password that you entered are correct?

With the URL, try using the full you e.g. http://www.eventespresso.com

Also in the API settings, please make sure that the API addon settings “Allow Public API Access?” is set to Allow and I would recommend that “API Session Timeout After” is set high or to Never.

Yeah tried all of that and still no luck. I am almost positive its from the Better WP Security Plugin.
I also tried the http://once2015.com/espresso-api/v1/events/public.pretty_json link and had no luck with that either.
Should I give you a login?

Hi Stuart,

You could test by temporarily deactivating the security plugin and then refreshing the page to access the pretty JSON API link.

If it works, then reactivate the security plugin and try reducing the the security settings.

The mobile apps use the JSON API to retrieve the event information so the security plugin might be blocking that.

No that doesn’t work. I’ve already tried it.

Better WP Security edits settings permanently so disabling the plugin doesn’t revert things back to their original state.

Okay thanks for explaining further. Is there an option to reduce the security level through the plugin?

It wasn’t a security plugin issue it turns out, but an issue with a plugin that forces SSL on all content called “Fix SSL/Non-SSL Links” when I disabled that it took care of the issue. So the problem seems to be related to SSL.

Usually when a plugin has a “Fix SSL/Non-SSL Links” option it will also warn that it can cause things to break.
