Super Early Bird Discount

Hi, my site has a 2 level early bird discount e.g. as follows:
Book 9 weeks before start of course
3200

Book 4 weeks before start of course
3600

Original course fees
4000

So the 4 weeks before is considered the early discount of 10%, where as the 9 weeks before is considered the SUPER early bird discount of 20%.

I understand that Event Espresso currently can support at least the normal early bird discount.

Question: Is there anyway to achieve the described SUPER early bird discount? If there is no native way to support it, suggestions on known ways to achieve this such as usage of combinations of coupons with an expiry date would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks
Daniel

Hi,

Although not technically supported Multi-Staged Early Bird discounts can be achieved but with a little more admin work.

The easiest way to achieve this is to manually alter that Early Bird Discount value/date. So you could setup the event offering ‘Super’ early discount of 20% 9 weeks before the event, then manually change the amount to 10% 4 weeks before hand. However the discount will always show as ‘Early Discount’ so you may want to add some info to the event description in regards to a Super Early discount.

Hi, thanks for your update. What we plan to do is to issue a discount coupon that expires 9 weeks before the event to act as the Super Early Bird discount instead.

The native early bird discount (10%) can stack with the discount coupon (10%) to achieve the super early bird discount of 20% right?

Thanks

The native early bird discount (10%) can stack with the discount coupon (10%) to achieve the super early bird discount of 20% right?

I have just tested this to be sure, unfortunately what happens is the coupon code discounts the amount AFTER the early bird discount has been applied.

So for example
Event Cost = $10.
Early bird discount = 10%
Cost = $9

Coupon discount = 10%
Cost now = $8.10 (10% of $9 is $0.90. $9 – 0.90 = $8.10)

Which can be seen here http://d.pr/i/tVDl

Without modifying Event Espresso core coupon codes are based upon the current event cost, so when an early bird discount is active, the new event cost is the cost after the discount has been applied. Does that make sense?

Hi,

Yes coupons will work alongside Early Bird Discounts.

EDIT: My apologies I misread the query. Tony is correct, it applies after the early bird discount, so with both discounts being 50% – $10 becomes $5 due to early bird, then it becomes $2.50 due to coupon code.

Sorry for any confusion!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the updates and testing. We would probably work around this by setting the discount coupon to be a fixed amount which we have calculated to be 10% nett off the original price.

This I believe would work. Let me know otherwise.

Thanks

That should work fine 🙂
