Hi guys,
At the following URL, when we fill out the form, we get the error ‘Sorry, there was a security error and your registration was not saved’

https://www.cdaa.org/training/seminar-conference-registration?regevent_action=register&event_id=315

WordPress Version 3.9.1
Event Espresso Version 3.1.36.5.P
This is an installation that was recently upgraded. The issue was there prior to the upgrade.

If you need admin login info, please request it in a private email.

Please advise,
Thanks,

Josh

Hi J,

Can you check to see if there are any caching plugins installed on this site?

Hi Josh,
There are no caching plugins. I looked through your support forum and tried all of the suggestions there including checking for caching plugins and checking the templates folder.

Do you want me to provide admin access so you can check it out?

If so, let me know where to send it.

Thanks!

Hi J,

Sending admin access isn’t necessary, we know why the security error is being thrown: Your registration form page doesn’t include the nonce fields that are included in the registration form template code. Along with that, I can see a few other errors being thrown in the source of the webpage you linked to.

Has someone on your team made any modifications to the registration form templates? It may help to check in the theme directory to see if there is a copy of registration_page_display.php. If there is, it may be an older copy that doesn’t include the nonces that were added in the later versions of Event Espresso.

Hi Josh,
No one has made modifications to the registration form that I’m aware of.

and there is no ‘registration_page_display.php’

How would you recommend fixing it?

We also just inherited this project from a prior developer so we aren’t very familiar with your plugin.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi J,

One way to fix this would be to make a back up of the event-espresso folder that you’ll find in wp-content/plugins (making the backup is just in case the prior developer made some changes that you’re not aware of, but you may need to review the changes in case the client had some specific customizations done).

Then you can deactivate the Event Espresso plugin and delete it.

Then you download a fresh copy of Event Espresso 3.1.36.5 from your account page, install, and activate it.

Along with that, please make sure that all of Event Espresso’s add-ons are up to date.

Hi Josh,
I’ve done that and the issue still remains. All add ons and event espresso are up to date.

Thanks for all your help thus far, it’s looking like giving you my admin info will be the fastest way to resolve this though unless you have more ideas. I’m a developer so I’ve tried a lot of the things you’re suggesting already.

Thanks again,

Hi,

Could you also run a test with only Event Espresso 3 running and other plugins disabled? If that fails, then please create a temporary WordPress admin login and share it through the link below:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details

Please be sure to restore your plugins after testing.

Hi J,

Since you didn’t send FTP credentials, can you take a look in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates to see if there are any files there? If there are any templates in there, can you try removing them from that location?

Hi J,
There are no templates there. I have installed a file manager plugin so you have the ability to do what you need to do.

You can see all the files here.

Hi J,

You’ll need to remove the copy of registration_page_display.php that’s located in the root directory. It’s an older copy and it’s overriding what’s in the Event Espresso plugin. That should fix the errors you are seeing.

You’re a boss. I checked for that file in the theme folder as opposed to the root directory so that makes perfect sense.

Thanks,
