Sold tickets showing higher than registrations

I have an instance of where an event with a event date with a limit of 16 places, containing 2 tickets each with a qty of 16 has sold out with only 9 registrations.

the 9 registrations are all on 1 ticket, but for some reason the sold stands at 16, thus making the course sold out.

There have been several registrations trashed on this event, and the trashed registrations have also been deleted, but still the sold count seems to be being effected.

Hi there,

Which payment method are you using?

Can you link me to the event so I can take a look?

Are you using the legacy editor or advanced? (if the event editor looks anything like THIS, your using the advanced editor)

Hi Tony

It’s a custom payment method, we’re using the legacy editor.

It’s a custom payment method

On-site or offsite?

we’re using the legacy editor.

Are the additional tickets sitting in the reserve counts?

offsite

Are the additional tickets sitting in the reserve counts?

No, they are showing in the sold counts.

Limit for the datetime is 16, limit for the tickets is 16, sold is showing as 16, reserved is 0, regs is 9

The cause of this is likely the payment method, not simply because it’s custom, but because it’s offsite.

Did you base that payment method on one of ours?

I’ve seen this happen with PayPal Standard (which we’ve since deprecated) because the user and the IPN would hit the site at the same time causing the sold values to be incremented at the same time and double up.

Interesting, I’ll whip up a staging site to see if I can replicate this theory, it does make sense that would be it though.

Morning Tony

I can confirm I’ve been able to replicate the issue. When the IPN returns the sold count is increased, and when the user returns back to the site the sold count is increased again.
