Social Coupon & Promo Codes not working with multiple ticket purchases

Our tour business requires that we honor Groupon codes (one of the main reasons we purchased Event Espresso(EE)). Now that we have the new WordPress site built and EE installed, we realize we cannot go live because of a few different reasons:

  1. When a user attempts to purchase 2 or more tickets and use a Groupon code, it makes the entire purchase free. Meaning 1 Groupon = 10 tickets. Not OK
  2. We thought a workaround would help by making a Groupon worth a certain $ amount. But it is not a feature
  3. Instead we thought we would make all of the Groupon codes promo codes so we could make them worth a $ amount but that would allow multiple uses. Not OK
  4. The only way that it looks like we can support Groupon codes is to force each ticket to be purchased one at a time. That is not acceptable because it drives away regular business just to support Groupon customers. Not OK

We need:

  • Promo codes that have a # of uses and expiration ability
  • Vouchers that have expiration and $ amount discount configurable / # tickets configurable

At this point, we are unable to go live with the new site and the above reasons are forcing us to go back with our previous ticketing and payment provider ThunderTix (which does support all of the aforementioned things).

I want to like/use EE but these among other basic features are keeping us from staying a customer. At this point our Developer License is useless to us. If we cannot get these features to work at the bare minimum we would be forced to cancel our subscription.

Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed? I saw on your latest Google Hangout discussing 4.0 and an alpha being available on March 25. It is now March 28th and I do not see anything in the beta area. Do you have an estimate on the arrival of 4.0?

Hi Brad,

I’m sorry to hear that the discount codes functionality does not meet your specific needs. In their present states they offer limited functionality. We are going to be overhauling the social coupons add-on and creating more flexible promo code functionality, and 4.0 will allow for a better platform to build more robust discount features.

4.0 alpha has been pushed back a few weeks because it’s not ready just yet. We’re pushing for April 2nd, but I can’t make any promises on that. I should be clear that in the initial 4.0 releases, there will not be promo code or social coupons features. These will be added after the core product gets to a stable point.

There is some code that you might find useful that adapted the social coupons add-on to limit the usage that you might be able to modify and put to use. I’ll post a link to the DropBox files here:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13339474/payment_page.zip

These were developed by someone else who later offered to share the code. I hope that helps.

With a few modifications I was able to implement the spellbound code and we have Groupons working now. We are eagerly waiting the full 4.0 release because this is very much a “get it working” solution. Thanks for the help!

I downloaded the latest 4.0 build and it is looking very promising.  Please make groupon codes/vouchers and discount coupons a priority for the 4.0.  We would love to put this into production when the time comes – but need social coupons working.

Thanks!
