Single event, multiple registrations

I’m creating an event for a weekend retreat. If a couple is registering I need the attendees list to reflect both names and increment by 2. I know how to make this work by setting the group registrations to “2” so thats good but what I actually want to do is change the wording for the text for the second attendee from “Add More Attendees? (click to toggle, limit 1)” to something more specific like “Click to Register your spouse or partner” I have searched for where to change the text but I have had no luck. Where can I change this? How can I change this for just this event and leave future events with the default text?

Also I need to make sure the price is not doubled for a couple since the pricing is based on either one or two people registering on a single registration. Basically the spouse/partner would register for free in the case of a couple.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Randy,

This tutorial will help you step-by-step with what you are wanting to do:

Jonathan,

I read through that tutorial before posting. I’m pretty inexperienced in much of this type of thing but I did download and install poedit. I could not figure out how to download the repository though. I even did some searching in general about downloading and I came up short.

Also maybe this is just a typo but step 2 says to download and edit a .po file while step 5 says to upload a .mo file. Not a big deal though.

So after I edit the .po file to the text I want, that will be the text for all future additional attendees right? I will need to be more general in my wording if that is the case.

thanks for your help.

Also, how do you edit or setup the additional attendees as she mentioned? I too need a spouse option so that they are not charged twice if they register their spouse. Thanks so much for you help!!!!!!!

Jonathan I figured out how to get the .po file to download and got it into poedit. I made the needed changes and uploaded the .mo file to the languages directory. Is there a step that I missed to have the .mo file become active? I’ve uploaded several times but the changes are not reflected on the registration form.

thanks.

Audrea I turned on Group registrations under Event Options and then created a promo code valued at 50% for anyone entering “couple” as the promo code. It isn’t the best way I’m sure to handle this but at least it works to keep a couple from being billed twice.

Thank you Randy. But surely there is a better way! I really need this feature or another a way to accomplish it. We are already issuing a promo code to a certain group of people for a discounted price, so I cannot combine both…

Hi Randy,

About the .po/.mo files:

Also maybe this is just a typo but step 2 says to download and edit a .po file while step 5 says to upload a .mo file. Not a big deal though.

You actually do download and edit the .po file, and upload the .mo file that’s generated when you save the changes.

There is an alternative method to swapping in language files that will let you change text strings without editing core Event Espresso files. You can add a function like this one to your functions.php file and override text strings with a filter:

Hey Randy – Josh gave me the answer to how to accomplish this the way I needed using both the Volume Discount and Promo Code if you were interested. I know I need all the help I can get so thought you might as well… Here’s my post.

Audrea, thanks for letting me know of your progress on the best way to set up discounts for couples in a single registration. I’ll try to stay up on what you get done so that I can use it in the future.
