Setting Prices

I am using Event Espresso – 3.1.34.1.P with multiple event registration and seating chart. I thought I read earlier that what prices are set in the event page will override what is listed on the seating chart. I understand we can’t set different prices for seats (children, sr. etc), but I was under the impression I could work around this with the multiple price options. I’m in a huge bind right now with EE and this whole seating chart thing and would really appreciate some quick and helpful assistance.

I will also add, I have just added two of my prices in my seating chart and reloaded it. Unfortunately the price is still showing blank. Seems I have two issues at hand.

Hi Wendeth,

It turns out that it’s the other way around: The seating chart price will override any prices set in the event editor. A seat can be assigned one non-members price and one members price as shown in the documentation:

Please also note that the Multi Event Registration registration does not allow for selecting seats from the chart. Seats can be selected from the standard registration page (not the cart).

Hey Josh, yeah, I knew the two couldn’t be used together as a “cart”, but I had indeed switched who overrode whom. I am having issues with my seating chart only showing one of the prices from the file I uploaded. Frankly I’m a little spent with the seating chart and trying to move on with something (anything) that works at this point. I’ve read through a pretty good number of topics and I’m seeing the same issues throughout, hopefully we’ll see some actual fixes from EE side rather than forcing us to do this ourselves. Plus, as I’ve seen others mention, it would be great to allow for more than just 2 prices allowed for the seats (or at least an easier way for customers to receive their discounts). I’m creating 5 discount codes right now (hoping it works) which my customers will have to ideally muddle through and type in w/o much problem. At this point I don’t even know if this is going to work. I know I’m not the only one with this complaint. Perhaps this can be an “update” soon?

Hi Wendeth,

The seating chart was built for the use case where each seat has its own price, and different groups of seats (or sections) can have their own set. This is a standard pricing scheme for sporting and concert events. At this time there isn’t a plan to bring multiple pricing to the seating chart. That said, Event Espresso 4.x will have multiple pricing options for the standard registration form when it’s ready for release.

Crazy. And when will 4.x release? I know from reading forums I’m not the only completely dissatisfied customer with this whole thing.

Hi Wendeth,

While I cannot disclose a release date for Event Espresso 4.x at this time, I can point to a work around that allows for setting up selectable multiple pricing options within one event that you can use now. It does involve using the Multi Event Registration add-on so the seating chart wouldn’t be available for the events that require variable pricing.

So if pricing scheme goes something like this:

Ticket option A: $15.00
Ticket option B: $10.00
Ticket option C: $5.00

Then the solution outlined here can be used:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/multiple-events-registration-use-add-to-cart-link-instead-of-default-registration-form/

If you set up the event as outlined by the above linked guide it will allow the ticket purchaser to select multiples of each ticket type within one transaction.

Hope that helps.

While I thank you for your time and suggestion, since we are a theater with a show coming up and tickets going on sale Oct 1, this does not help my situation. Customers need to be able to get their tickets at our published prices (Sr/Student/Child).

Hi Wendeth,

The above suggestion will make it possible for your customers to buy tickets at your published prices.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I do/did see what you were saying earlier, but what I don’t see is how I make that work with my seating chart, which is what I was told regarding the shopping cart before. My assumption is we could fix that problem by entering coupon codes. With this example above are you saying they can select their seats and this is in ADDITION to the seat selection, or are you saying this just gives them an option to by x amount of seats for each price?

This gives them an option to by x amount of tickets for each price. The seating chart does not support multiple ticket type prices for one seat.
