Registration emails no longer working

I’m running EE 3.1.37.4.P on WP 4.2.2.

I have run a number of events in the past and everything – including confirmation emails – has worked fine.

Since the latest upgrade, I have duplicated an event, made some adjustments, made the event live and processed a test registration (with a 100% discount code). The registration has been made successfully.

However, my test email address has not received a registration confirmation, and I have not received a registration notification at my usual email address.

I haven’t changed any of the settings and the event has been set up exactly as I always do. I have now allocated it as a ‘draft’ event as I don’t want people registering before I fix this.

Any ideas what’s going wrong?

Thanks

I’m experiencing the exact same issue, literally word for word the same.

Hi guys,

I can’t see any recent changes that would have affected emails. However, EE uses the WordPress send_mail function.

The problem with this core function is that it depends heavily on how your host server is set up. If the server techs change something or you somehow trigger their spam filters it can stop your mail being sent out.

The first thing I would check is to make sure that emails are actually being sent by your site. You can do this with the Check Email plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/check-email/

If the check email plugin returns a failure, you will need to refer to your host for further assistance.

If emails are still being sent then you can try using the WP Mail SMTP plugin to try and circumvent the server to send out EE mails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

If that does not work, you could try a mail service such as Mandrill: https://www.mandrill.com/

Thanks, Dean, for your helpful response.

Just to update, this problem seems to have resolved itself (my favourite kind of problem 🙂 )

On 8th June, I used the Check Email plugin, which confirmed that emails were sending. I didn’t have time to do the next steps.

Today, before I followed the next steps, I thought on a whim that I would see if I could use the ‘Send email to all attendees’ function on my draft event. The email went through to my test attendee. I then took a punt and made the event live again, put through another test attendee (using the same test email address as before), and the registration emails came through perfectly.

Not sure what happened, but if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, maybe have another punt at it.

Thanks.

Hi, we do recommend setting up a transactional email service as they can help prevent emails from being marked as SPAM or junk mail.

Postmark app and Mandrill offer a generous free tier and you can get setup in less than 15 minutes:
