Registrant name changed by the system

Hello,
I had a registrant (Craig) successfully register. Then he had his son (Ian) register with different address, credit card and name. As soon as his son registered all the previous registrations that were in Craig’s name changed to Ian’s name. When I click eventEspresso Registrations, Craig’s name no longer shows up. Only Ian’s shows up.

What is weird is I look at the Registration Notification emails that I received and I can see Craig’s Registration Notification email and click on his name or Registration Code and when the page opens up it shows Ian’s name and address.

So my registrations are messed up because it changed them. What is going on?

Thanks for you help,

Dave K

Hi Dave,

This can happen when users use the browser back button within the browser if they haven’t finzalized the registration (selected a payment method and finalized or opened the edit registration link and then used the back button)

So the user selects tickets and registers.

Then uses the back button to get to the registration information page again and replaces their info with the second registration, the problem with this is the users session is open which means EE doesn’t know a second registration has taken place.

Did the user pay for the registrations? If so what payment method did they use?

Hi Tony,

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. Yes the user did pay. They are all shown as complete. Here is what we did: I put a $.01 ticket on there. Craig registered 4 times under his name and the transactions completed. Then Ian registered, from Craig’s computer. (Not sure at this time if he used the back arrow button. I’ll find that out shortly and let you know). When Ian registered all four of Craig’s transactions now show Ian’s contact info and Ian’s name on the transaction.

I’ll get back to you very shortly. Thanks again Tony.

Tony,

The registrations were done by going back to the home page with the button that brings them to the registration page. Ian did not hit the back arrow button.

Which payment method did the user pay with?

As your using a $0.01 ticket I’m assuming that Ian did not run through a payment gateway? (Most of the gateways do not accept that low of a value)

It may sound picky but the small details really do matter in this case, we need the full steps Ian is taking to reproduce this. At what point does he stop the registration and start another? Which payment method did he select?

The registrations were done by going back to the home page with the button that brings them to the registration page.

Which button? Did he open another tab and start a new registration on the event that way?

The above sounds like a session conflict as mentioned, under normal circumstances if not using the back button this shouldn’t be a problem so I’m trying to narrow this down some.

Ian paid with a Credit Card.
We have authorize.net and a bank payment gateway setup.
Ian only registered one time. After Craig registered 4 times Ian registered one time.
Not sure if he opened another tab.
I tested this myself a few days ago. It processed the $.01 payment and it showed up as pending then as a completed transaction at my bank just fine.

Does that help Tony?

Tony,
I checked with Chase PaymentTech. All 6 tests showed up. 3 have cleared and 3 will clear tonight.

Ahh ok.

Auth.net allows you to set a minimum and maximum transaction amount through your auth.net Dashboard. Most gateways set this to $0.50 but anyway, that explains why your transactions are going through.

Ian only registered one time. After Craig registered 4 times Ian registered one time.

Apologies, I got the names mixed up.

However with your last reply it looks like all registrations did pay so the registration should finalize.

I still can not reproduce this when using auth.net and making multiple registrations, I’ve also tested using the back button to confirm the registration finalized after payment (on the thank you page) and that also worked as expected.

Can you link me to your event so I can run a test registration please? You’ll also need to enable Debug mode within the auth.net payment method as we do not run live transactions.

Thanks Tony. Can we schedule the test at a time today or tonight? I am available 9 am to 4 PM CST today 2-3-16 and 9 PM to 12 midnight tonight.

@josh brought up another case in which this could happen that I hadn’t thought of.

Are you using the WP User Integration Add-on?

Are both users inputting the same email address?

@josh might have found it. Yes I am using the WP User Integration Add-on.
Each user has a separate email address. They did use the same computer. Is it possible that the Add-on could do this by reading IP addresses?

They did use the same computer.

Were the logged into the same account?

Did they input the same email address within the registration form or each their own unique email address?

Is it possible that the Add-on could do this by reading IP addresses?

No it uses the currently logged in user and/or the contact details for the registration (which is why I’m asking which email they input)

When they register, then are you saying that they then are logged in? It that is true, than yes they would have been logged into the same account most likely. Ian used Craig’s computer to register himself only minutes after Craig registered.

But, Ian input a different / unique email address within the registration form.

One of the features of the EE4 User Integration add-on is it syncs up your registration contact with your user account.

It does this using the values you enter into the registration form to sync up with the user account details and then the EE contact details. That’s why your registrations are updating, the new details are being synced to the EE contact. It doesn’t matter that the details are unique if your logged in it uses your account.

You can disable this within Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> User Integration settings -> Always sync contact information with WP user profile?

Set that to No and update the settings.

Then retest with the same steps.

Can I ask what you are using the EE4 User Integration add-on for?

Thanks Tony, I updated the settings to no.

I installed that plugin since it was part of the regular download package from EE4 and thought it would be useful. I appreciate your help!!

Hi Dave,

They can be useful features for sure, however, I can recommend reviewing the feature set of the WP Users Integration to make sure its features are a good fit for your website.
