Recurring Event Problem (2)

Hello, my question is in regards to the recurring event feature.
It worked great for my events that recur every week but when I try to create an event that recurs only on the third Tuesday of every month, it won’t work.
As soon as I select “Event Repeats: Monthly” my projected recurrences of the event disappear. I’m left with only one projected recurrence if I have the radio button on “Day of Month” and if I select “Day of Week” (which is what I need) I’m left with 0 projected recurrences of the event.

I really don’t want to enter them in manually since the event will be recurring from now until forever basically.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a known problem with a fix available?

I am using event espresso v3.1.36.4.P
and Event Espresso – Calendar v2.2.2.p

Thanks,
Bryce

Hi Bryce,

Can you provide an overview of the dates your are currently using to create the series please so we can investigate further?

Certainly. The dates are below:
Registration Start: 201-03-12
Registration End: 2024-03-19
Event Times Start: 5:30PM End: 7:00PM
First Event Date: 2014-03-18
First Event End Date: 201-03-18
Last Event Date: 2024-03-19
Event Repeats: Monthly
Every: 1 Month
Repeat By: Day of Week

These settings leave me with 0 projected recurrences of the event.
Am I doing something wrong?

-Bryce

Event Times Start: 5:30PM End: 7:00PM
First Event Date: 2014-03-18
First Event End Date: 2014-03-18
Last Event Date: 2024-03-19
Event Repeats: Monthly
Every: 1 Month
Repeat By: Day of Week

Hi Bryce,

When testing this it brought to light a bug with the Recurring Event Manager (REM) when using recurring by Month.

This has been fixed in the development version of REM which is currently under testing, I can email you a copy of if you would like to try it?

Something I have noticed however, is you are attempting to create 10 years worth of events (Last Event Date: 2024-03-19) and whilst this this shouldn’t be a problem for monthly events (~120 events) it likely would be if using weekly options, as the number of events to be created dramatically increases.

REM wasn’t designed to be used over such a long period of time, but rather shorter periods with more events. That’s not to say it wont work, just that you may need to double check the dates it is using for the events to be sure.

Hi Tony,

Yes, I guess I would like to try the development version because recurring monthly events are very important for us as we have many classes and groups that meet at the same time every month based on the day of the week and week of the month. For example the third tuesday of the month, we also have classes that meet every first and third wednesday but I assume there is not a way to set that up for a single event? I would need to make an event for every first Wednesday and duplicate the event for every third Wednesday which isn’t the end of the world.
Most importantly we just get the recurring monthly classes working so that we can schedule these classes asap.

Also regarding the weekly events, that hasn’t been a problem for me thus far. I set up some recurring weekly events for 10 years and it worked fine. Just having trouble with the monthly.

Thank you for your help!
Bryce

Hi Bryce,

I have emailed a copy of the developer version of REM which includes a fix for this, if you could provide any feedback at all it would be appreciated 🙂

I would need to make an event for every first Wednesday and duplicate the event for every third Wednesday which isn’t the end of the world.

Or you could just create another recurring series with the same information on this time set it to recur on the other Wednesday.

Also regarding the weekly events, that hasn’t been a problem for me thus far. I set up some recurring weekly events for 10 years and it worked fine.

The issue is usually due to overloading the server (creating multiple events takes a lot of processing power) or that the dates me be slightly wrong the further you go forward.

Either way I am glad it worked for you.
