Recently upgraded WordPress and EventEspresso – also changed my registration page back to the single event, since I coudn’t get MER (add to cart link) working. Somewhere in the process, I no longer get any options for promotional codes, even though they are set up and turned on with my event. ANy ideas?

Hello Elizabeth,

You may have outdated template files in the wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates directory. You can test this by clicking the “Rename Templates Directory” button. This can be undone via FTP.

You can start with fresh templates from the newer version. If you have made modifications to the earlier versions templates, you can copy the modifications into the newer versions templates. When youre finished, you can copy the modified files into /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates.

If you havent made any customizations, and youre simply trying to update to the new version of Event Espresso, you can remove the templates from /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates using FTP or your hosts control panel file manager.

Please see this article in the documentation for more info:

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for checking on that, and I’m sorry for all the trouble. Can you post a link to the registration page where this is happening and let us know (if possible) if your site is hosted on WPEngine?

The reason I ask about WPEngine is that some folks have reported having problems with Multi Event Registration while hosted on Multi Event Registration, but there is a solution for this.

OK I do see the box now (at the very end)! thanks for the help. this is sort of a workaround (going back to single event registration), because i STILL cannot get the “register” button working (it simply hangs/spins) when I use the “add to cart” link instead (using MER). It ONLY works when I open the “register” button in a new tab or window, not when i click on it. still stumped on that one…

Hi Elizabeth, The issues that you\’re describing have been reported before by folks who are hosted on WP Engine. The solution is to have WP Engine turn off caching for the pages that handle the event registration, which are the pages with the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS], [EVENT_LIST], and [ESPRESSO_CART_LINK] shortcodes. If you\’re not on WP Engine, but are running a caching plugin, you can disable caching for the pages for that have the above listed shortcodes. Most caching plugins will have an advanced settings screen that has an option to disable caching for specific pages.

Hi Elizabeth,

If you can also post a link to the page where this is happening, we can also check to see if there are any JavaScript errors on the page, which can be another cause of the issue with the registration button spinner not working as expected.

Here is the link, Josh..i just opened registration to try it again..same thing…can’t use the “add to cart” function. it just spins and spins…unless you right-click and open in new tab/window

I’m seeing something different in that it doesn’t spin and spin, but it doesn’t add the event to the cart. Instead I get this message:
“It looks like you are attempting to refresh a page after completing your registration or your cart is empty. Please go to the events page and try again.”

Normally, we will see an error like this one if there are older templates in the /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates directory. The other cause of this can be from a misconfiguration on the server where PHP can’t write to the session save path, or the session path doesn’t exist, or it has been moved and the session save path hasn’t been updated in php.ini.

Can you check with your host to see if they allow the sessions to be saved?
