I’ve installed and activated the plug in. But it doesn’t appear in my event espresso menu. If I click on settings from the plug in screen, it says I’m not allowed to access this page.

Hi,
This sounds like the capabilities for your admin user were not set up when the plugin was activated.
Can you go to Event Espresso > Maintenance > Reset, then click on the “Reset Event Espresso Capabilities” button on that page?

Hi Josh:
I found the button you’re referring to under the maintenance tab. I clicked it and reinstalled the plugin. it is still not showing up.

Further to this: When I test buying a ticket, the registration screen sows the customer the option of entering a promo code. I just can’t see whwere promo codes are created and applied to an event.

Can you try deactivating the Promo code plugin, the reactivate it on the WP > Plugins page?

yes I have tried that. I also deactivated everything except event espresso and the promotion plug in. I’ll try again.

You will actually deactivate the Promotions plugin, then reactivate it.
