I’m having trouble creating an event listing with two categories. I used the following with my two category names-
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”weekly, ep”]

It only seems to be using the last category. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Hi Lara,

Can you use this shortcode instead and let us know whether it works for you?

[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”weekly, ep”]

I tried the new code. Didn’t work. Now I get the following “No events available…” even though there are events in system that contain both categories.

Any other suggestions?
thanks!

Hi Lara,

I’m not sure why, but I’m getting a database error when I try this, but if I add a space before the comma it works. Like this:

[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”weekly , ep”]

Also, you’ll want to make sure that the events are assigned to one category each (or set to both of the categories set in the shortcode).

That didn’t work either.

Is there a way to create an event listing with a category id and a venue id?

I tried this and it didn’t work-
[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”weekly” venue_id=”1″]

Newbie here . . . Can you tell? Thanks for all your help!

It turns out there is a different shortcode that handles event lists by venues:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#venue

It accepts the category parameter, so you can do:

[ESPRESSO_VENUE_EVENTS id=1 category_identifier=your_category_identifier]

Also important: You’ll want to make sure that you are using the category identifier (not the category name) when you specify the categories in these shortcodes. Here is a screenshot of the category manager that may help clarify.

That worked. Thank you!!!

Is there a way to use the venue code for the calendar view?

Not at this time. However, the latest update of the calendar (v. 2.1) has an option that you can set to yes: Enable Filters in Calendar

When you set that to yes, it will add selectors to view only events for categories and venues.

You can see an example of the filters here:
