Problem w/ Site License Key

Since upgrading to EE4, I’ve had a problem w/ my Site License Key that prevents auto-updating. I’ve requested to reset the key twice, and the problem still persists. I constantly get this error:

There is a new version of Event Espresso available. View What’s New with version 4.2.9.p. You need a valid Site License Key to enable automatic upgrades. Your current membership level does not allow automatic upgrades on more than one domain. Please log into your account to manage your Site License Keys or purchase a support license now.

Is there a fix for this? Thx!

Hi Matthew,

I have reset your license key, could you please go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Remove the key from the field (cut), save the settings, replace the key (paste), check for whitespace before/after and then re-save once again.

If that does not resolve the auto updates issue we will assign a new license key to your account.

Hi Tony,
The error msg is gone, however, now it doesn’t see available updates. It’s running 4.2.0.reg and seems to think it’s up-to-date… even after 4.3.0.p released. Any thoughts?

We’ve made multiple changes to how the update library works within EE4 since 4.2.0.reg so you may need to manually update in this instance.

You could try opening up Event Espresso -> General Settings. Then hitting Save. That will force a recheck for version updates. If that still does not show update notifications.

I recommend firstly creating a full site backup (both files and database), we have a guide available here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-back-up-your-site/

Its important not to skip backups, especially when updating plugins/themes or even WP itself. Always good to have a backup 🙂

Then manually updating Event Espresso 4. Which basically involves de-activating then deleting the current version and manually uploading the version available through your account and adding it to your plugins via Plugins -> Add New -> Upload.

We also have a guide available to do this:

Hi Ted,

You license key has been reset.

If you could also follow the steps posted in my first reply thought should allow the updates to work. If you are using the EE4 Calendar please update that before updating core to 4.3.0

That worked thank you so much. Can I upgrade the Calendar only for now as I see many people have problem with EE4.3?

The new version of the Calendar is designed to work with 4.3.0+ and will not work with 4.2.X so to use the latest version you would need to update to 4.3.0

The issues reported with 4.3.0 have so far been mainly to do with the Calendar needing to be updated first.
