Hey Guys- So I want to set up an event registration to be invite only. So I get that I can create the event and put a password on it and send it out via email with the link for people to access and register. However, what is the best way to structure this in the event archive page because I want the event information to be open to the public but to register is invite only. Does that make sense? It is for a tennis program that people interested need to reach out and go through an screening with a coach before actually being allowed to register.

Thanks in advance!

matt

Hi Matt,

If you create the event just as you described then only the students that know the password will be able to register for it.

Are you seeing something different?

If you were previously testing and already entered the password that you sent, then you would not need to immediately re-enter it. Try opening the link (URL) to the event in a web browser that you are not currently using and it should prompt you for a password.

Hi Lorenzo –

No that part is perfectly fine. The problem is if I make the event private than the public wont be able to get the general event information. So the event info is public. But registration is by invite only. So I am not sure if its possible to set it up this way. 1) Allow people to view the program information and details but prevent registration bc it is invite only to register. If there isnt a way to steamline this easily than I will just add in the event details that this event is by invite only and you need to email personA for approval before moving forward with registration. I am OK to handle it that way as well if i have to. Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Will they be registering on the site once approved? If so, will they be given a special password or some other proof of approval to prove they’ve been invited to register?

Hey Josh –

Nope – they will be emailed a link to the event page with a generic password that is used to protect the page and they can simply enter the password to view the event page and register.

One other thing and I know this isn’t directly related but the catalog of events shows only 9 events before going to another page. I dont see an option in the general settings to display more. Where can I change this setting? I want all events to display on one catalog/archive page.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

In that case you can set up a page for registration, and restrict the registration’s ticket selector using some code adapted from this snippet:

https://github.com/eventespresso/ee-code-snippet-library/blob/master/templates/jf_ee_password_protect_ticket.php

The number of events per page on an archive view is controlled by the Blog pages show at most x posts setting that you can set in WordPress > Settings > Reading.
