PayPal IPN notification failure – please help!!!

Hi,

PayPal sent me the following notification:

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing and it lists 4 transaction URLs. It appears that the notification failures are related to refunds processed through Paypal and not being notified through the IPN about refunds. I’m using PayPal Standard.

How do I fix this? This is fairly urgent as it’s in the middle of event registration. Please help!

Thanks.

I’m using EE 4.6.30p.

Additionally, I’m noticing 5 failed transactions and no data from the registrant. What would be causing this?

Hi A,

Can you check the URL they’re sending you and make sure that the page that the URL points to is published and publicly readable? When it’s published, you’ll see the page when you’re logged out of your website.

Yes all 4 URLs are published when I click on them they direct to the transactions page.

But I’m still not getting the IPN notifications from PayPal. I’m hoping you can help me resolve this as soon as possible, as Paypal has stated in their email, if the problem continues, IPNs may be disabled from my account.

Hi, we are currently running some testing on this and we’ll update this support post afterwards.

Thanks

Hi there,

Paypal informed me to check the server/IPN Script if they properly acknowledge refunds IPN, because they are getting IPN HTTP 500 response back. Not sure if that helps on your end on how to fix this.

I’m getting several notifications from Paypal that if the problem continues, IPNs may be disabled from my account. This is very urgent as I’m in the middle of event registration. Please help 🙂

Hi A,

It turns out we’re working on adding a conditional so when the a refund IPN comes in from PayPal, EE will send an http 200 request back to PayPal. It will be included in the next release of Event Espresso 4, later today.

Will I be able to update to that new version in the middle of event registration without losing any registrations?

Yes of course. The registration data is in your database. When you update to a new version of EE, the data stays in the database, and the plugin files are updated. Please be sure to backup your database before you run the update (this is recommended as a precaution for any software update).

The new update is released, and it includes the fix where EE sends PayPal the http 200 response when a refund is processed.
