Payment via Paypal without signing up for Paypal

We’re testing out the payment for our event, and noticed that for credit card payments via Paypal, aside from asking for the card details, it’s also asking for details to sign up for Paypal, and there’s no other way to go beyond that page unless you sign up. Is there a way around this or is that the default for Paypal Express? I also read that this might also vary depending on the location?

We’re using Paypal Express (since Paypal Pro is only for US, UK, and Canada), and the Account Optional is turned on in our Paypal account setting.

Hi,

What you’ll find is if you do the same test with a browser that has no browser cookies from a logged in PayPal session, you’ll get the option to pay without a PayPal account. When PayPal detects the cookies they set for their users, they’ll assume that you have a PayPal account.

What you can do is test out the payment for the event by using Chrome’s Incognito mode, Firefox’s Private Browsing mode, or a similar feature from other browsers where no cookies are set.

Hi Josh,

I’ve done that, but as I said, after asking the credit card details, it asks for details to sign up, and the button says Create Account & Pay Now.

paypal

This is really baffling for us, because we’re seeing other sites that also uses Paypal for payments, yet the button to pay via credit card without Paypal sign up is there

In Paypal’s help page Account Optional, they say:
“Your third party shopping cart may override the Account Optional setting through the API call to PayPal. You can bypass this cart restriction only by contacting the support team for the shopping cart to see if there’s any way to alter the default API settings of the cart.”

Here’s the information from PayPal about this:

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/account-optional

If everything for your PayPal account is set up as outlined there (PayPal Account Optional set to Yes and it’s a Premier and Business account) then you could check with PayPal support about this because there’s really nothing that EE sends to PayPal that would override the account optional setting.
