OK – I’m new to this but it appears I need to have a Business Account with WordPress in order to be able to install add-ins – is this correct?????

Hi there

No, that is incorrect. Your license has no effect on the plugin functionality, it is for support and updates.

What error is shown when you try to install the plugin?

Can you provide a list of steps you are taking to get to the error?

Tony – thanks. I downloaded the zip file from my account in event espresso, then opened my “Personal” Word Press account and went to “Plugins”, clicked on “upload plugin”. It then gave me an error saying I need to upgrade to a “Business” account in WordPress in order to install plugins.

Ah, my apologies, I misunderstand your question and thought you meant your EE license.

You’re hosting your site on WordPress.com and have a personal account with them, so yes, if you wanted to install plugins with your site hosted there, you would need a Business account with them at a cost of ~$300 a year.

WordPress.com is one option for hosting WordPress you can use others if preferred
(Yep, this is where it gets confusing, WordPress.com is WordPress, right? Well, sort of, but it’s not your only option)

The account you have with WordPress.com is basically a hosting account, they host your site and you use the WordPress software there.

You can use other hosting and use the WordPress software on that host, it all depends on your needs, and budget.

To understand the difference between the two, I’d recommend taking a look at this post:

Along with the above, we actually do not recommend hosting a website at WordPress.com. Here’s some information that includes a list of recommended hosting providers:
