Nested categories not showing correctly

Some of my classes are nested under a main group called Specialty Classes. When I create the registration approved custom emails for these, they are showing as registered for “Specialty Contractor” instead of the actual class, for example: “Water and Sewer”. I am using the shortcode that is already in the template and works for all of my other classes. When the student clicks the link it takes them to a page with a bunch of expired classes on it, instead of the actual class page they registered for: https://www.paulcalvoschool.net/exam-prep-schedule/specialty-contractor/ when it should take them here: https://www.paulcalvoschool.net/exam-prep-schedule/water-sewer-license-pawleys-island/

I see that the page isn’t nested under the specialty contractor page, but because that is an event, other than choosing the category, I don’t know how I should do that. Specialty classes are more expensive than the others, and less frequent, so that is why I have them separated out.

How can i fix this? I have about a dozen specialty classes and I just realized this wasn’t working.

I will leave a temporary login in the PM.

Hi there,

I am using the shortcode that is already in the template and works for all of my other classes.

Which shortcode? Which link are you referring to within the email?

I’ve just started here: https://www.paulcalvoschool.net/exam-prep-schedule/water-sewer-license-pawleys-island/

Registered onto the event in question, then manually approved my registration to trigger the Reg Approved email. On opening that email I used the EVENT_LINK to open up the event and it took me to:

https://www.paulcalvoschool.net/exam-prep-schedule/water-sewer-license-pawleys-island/

That’s the correct URL, right?

Am I missing a step to reproduce this on your site?

Yes, that is the correct link, but that’s not the result I’m getting when I do it this way:
1. Open the Water and Sewer Lines License, Pawley’s Island event
2. Scroll down to the bottom and click on Edit next to the Registration Approved message
3. When the message opens, click Test Send.

When I open the test email and that link says Specialty Contractor, when it should say Water and Sewer, and the link goes to the page I referenced above, that just shows a bunch of expired classes. The shortcode is the [EVENT_LIST] which then pulls the [EVENT_LINK] from the section below.

Oh, I see.

So the test emails pull in the first event from your database and use that event to build out the content of the emails, its a representation of how that email will look.

You’ll notice in your screenshot the date for that event is 2021.

To accurately test a specific event’s email with all of the ‘correct’ links etc you need to register onto it to test and trigger the email as if you were a normal registration.

It sounds like your registrants are getting the correct emails but the test email is using an old event (expected in this case).

There’s been a BIG push by most email providers recently to make sure your email are authenticated or they’ll be dropped.

Your login link has expired so I can’t view the admin, how is the site set up to send email?

Who hosts your email?

Hmmm, so the problem we have now is EE shows those as sent.

Which means that everything up to the point of sending the mail to SendGrid worked without returning an error. I hate to sound like I’m sitting back saying “this isn’t our problem”, but if it’s getting to that point and showing as sent then it likely means the issue is downstream after EE.

To put that into a physical analogy of a letter, EE wrote the content out, placed it in an envelope, addressed it, stamped it and passed it to the post office who smiled and said have a nice day… the letter then didn’t arrive.

Have you checked in SendGrid for any reporting on those ‘missing’ emails?

I get it. It’s just strange that so many are reporting not getting it. I’ll open a ticket with Flywheel to see if there’s a log for SendGrid. Thanks.
