Hello, I’m currently running Version 3.1.15.P but am ready to update!! I’ve been hesitant because a long time ago a friend helped me to adjust a little bit of code in the php files and I’m always worried this will get overwritten with an upgrade. Anyways, today I purchased a business license for: Version 3.1.30.7P. I paid instantly on paypal but it’s saying that my license key is not active. I’m not sure if this is related to my inability to easily update. I have downloaded the new EE files but it’s not showing as an automatic update in my WP dashboard. I was able to upload the new version but I don’t want to deactivate and start from scratch on the new one, especially since I have a bunch of live events and over a year’s worth of history of events and client info. Basically how do I simply (one click) update the currently running plugin to the newest version?
Here is my current reg page if needed: http://www.studiosproutsantacruz.com/registration I’m on the current 3.5.1 version of WP.

Hello,

First off, due to the age of your existing plugin there is unfortunately no simple one click update, we just didnt have that feature available at that time.

Though the database (and thus your events and data) should not be touched in the updates, I would start by backing up your sites database (just in case) https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-back-up-your-site/

The update process is pretty straight forward but manual – https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/ – though check the warnings and notes in that documentation.

Regarding your licence, you will need to add that into the General Settings page in the Event Espresso options, once the new version is installed. After that you will be able to receive one click updates for future releases, whilst your licence is valid.

If you have any more questions, let me know.

Thank you. I backed up and manually updated from 3.1.15.P to 3.1.31.1. I have not made any changes to settings or to pages other than entering in my new Site License Key. My events page now literally displays [ESPRESSO_EVENTS]. See here:

http://www.studiosproutsantacruz.com/registration

I checked the General Settings, and I see that under Page Settings the Main Registration Page is set to Event Registration, which is actually a “hidden” (or at least unlinked from my headers or any other pages) page located here:

http://www.studiosproutsantacruz.com/event-registration

The [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode appears on both of the URL’s shown above. I cannot recall why I had entered it on both a live page and a “hidden” page, but I seem to recall that there was a specific reason for it at the time.

I tried temporarily setting the Main Registration Page to the first URL above, and I completely lose my theme: header, footer, graphics, etc. I set it back to the second URL above. Please advise.

Hi,

The “Main Page” which by default is Event Registration can be hidden from the navigation as sometimes people prefer to use the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode as it tends to be more flexible but the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode which is on the “Main Page” is required for the plugin to work.

http://www.studiosproutsantacruz.com/event-registration is coming up with an internal server 500 error which is likely causing the disappearing site issues. Why though I am not sure.

Please make sure that [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] is only on one page and that that page is set as the Main Page in the general settings and that the page is not password protected/drafted/etc.

It may also be an idea to just deactivate and reactivate the plugin after this to make sure the database installed correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions but none of that worked. It ended up being a problem with the templates. There were some odd boxes at the very bottom of the Template Settings page, one red one green. They were in the developers only area. There were buttons that accompanied these warnings and once they were pressed the information disappeared and my event list showed.
