License Key clarification

Greetings,

I just purchased a Business License and found the function of the license key a bit confusing. The documentation only says not to use on a test or development server and save for the production server.

After installing the software on my local development server I found it fully functional and am now under the assumption the key only enables automatic update functionality. If that is the case I have two thoughts:

1. You may want to clarify the function of the site license key in your documentation as there was a moment of “how am I supposed to prepare my site locally before pushing out to web host?”

2. Maybe I want the automatic updates on my local server where I can implement as they become available and regression test before pushing out to the production web host in a more controlled process.

Just a couple of thoughts based upon my initial experience and a cursory search of the forum does suggest I am not alone….

And let me say thanks for the great software; I am here after trying to implement Drupal Commerce and thus far am delightfully impressed!

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the recommendations. We also check the license key location for support.

You can actually use the license key on the test/dev site. You will just need to have it reset prior to going live with the live site. It actually causes more confusion to use the license key on the dev site, then try to transfer to the live site because, if the license key is left in the dev site, then it won’t allow you to update.

Thanks again.
