The following message appeared at the top of a site I pushed to a staging environment to make some edits:

Your support license key is only valid for one domain at a time, and our licensing system has detected that you are using your license key on multiple domains. Please log in to your Event Espresso account to manage your Support License Keys, or if you have concerns, please Contact Us.

I’m concerned you’ll do something crazy like disable my production install just because I’ve got it on Dev/Staging too.

I’m concerned you’ll do something crazy like disable my production install just because I’ve got it on Dev/Staging too.

We may be crazy, but we are not that crazy 🙂

But seriously, we will never disable your install.

The license key has no effect on EE4’s functionality other than the one-click updates and allows us to provide support. So what happens when you see the above message is it invalidates your license key, but that simply means that one click updates don’t work until you reset the key. It does not stop EE working in any other way.

So the problem is that you have the license key active in 2 sites, one site pings our servers and the license key is assigned to that domain, then the other site pings the server and the licensing system checks the domain, only to find its different from the one assigned to the key. This sets a flag on your license and both sites show that message.

To fix this we can simply reset your license key to remove the flag (which I have just done), however you’ll need to remove the key from whichever site you don’t want to use auto updates on. Usually that’s the development copy of the site (you can update manually there)

Your lice site will then be re-assigned to your key when it pings our server to check for updates.
