Just started… I'm so lost. Recurring class but only one registration?

I want to create a cooking class that meets for 1 hour each Thursday for the month of January.

The student pays $55 and she gets to come to class every Thursday in Jan. (9th,16th,23rd and 30th). She only pays once $55 at registration which allows her to attend all 4 classes for the month. I really don’t care if she shows up or not to all 4 but I would like to track it by having her check in on how many she attends.

So… Question 1 is: How do I set this up? Setting the class up as recurring doesn’t work because it allows people to sign up for each individual class and I don’t want that. It’s a package deal.

Question 2: How would I check her in when she shows up to each class? I assume she would need a ticket for each one? Correct? I don’t see how to accomplish this.

Thanks so much in advance for whomever might be able to help!

Hi Mike,

In this case you could set up one event for the registration.

With the multiple check ins, I’m not sure there’s an elegant solution that’s included with the ticketing add-on. While there is an option to check someone in and then check them out, it doesn’t track multiple check ins (it’s one check in per attendee).

One solution that I can think of would likely involve building an extension that would add the ability to take the registrations from the main registration and copy them over to events for each of the other times that the class meets (and these events wouldn’t show up on the front-end of the site so people wouldn’t be able to register for them). Then tickets can be issued for these. This can also be done manually. Making it an automatic process can be done, but a developer would need to build a plugin to add this functionality.

Thanks Josh.

On the first issue, yeah, I figured I’d have to set the class up as just a register once for the package setup. However, since I was planning on using the calendar display to show events, I kind of wanted those subsequent classes to show up on the next 3 Thursdays (as sort of a visual placeholder for them even though a visitor wouldn’t be able to sign up for them individually). Does that make sense? Is that Doable?

On the second Questions when you said “This can also be done manually” were you referring to how a custom extension might be designed? Or did you mean that it could actually be done manually now with the way EE works without modification?

Thanks very much.. sorry for being so needy in my first attempt to use this plugin!

Yeah it makes sense. There’s an event option that lets you enter an “Alternate Registration URL” so the visual placeholder events can display on the event, but when people click on them it takes them to the other event.

With the idea of making it so you can do multiple check ins. I haven’t given it too much thought, but I think it might be possible to export the attendee list from the main sign up event, then import that list to those very same placeholder events. Then the additional tickets could be sent out to those attendees.

Hi Mike,

I dug up an old forum post where I made a diagram on how to set up the placeholder events using the Recurring events manager. You could set up the events with or without the Recurring events manager. The key is setting the placeholder events to not display a registration form and set the Use an alternate registration page:
