Hi,

The jQuery Migrate Helper plugin is flagging the following issues:

https://www.downinthewoodsltd.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/scripts/espresso_cart_functions.js: jQuery.fn.unload() is deprecated

https://www.downinthewoodsltd.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/scripts/espresso_cart_functions.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated

Can you advise?

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

We are aware of the notices and for the time being, you’ll need to keep the jQuery Migrate Helper plugin active to prevent any errors on the front end.

Currently, we only push security updates to EE3 but we have a ticket to discuss this further and see what we can do.

Side note – we view threads based on replay date/time so ‘bumping‘ your threads will essentially move them to the back of the queue as your last reply date/time becomes your threads new date/time.

OK thanks Tony.
With WordPress 5.6 I understand the Jquery Migrate Helper plugin will stop working. If that’s so can you let me know if either of these issues will stop the site from working or cause the site to show/throw errors?
Thanks,
Elaine

Hi,

Can you provide an update on what will happen re: EE3

plugins/event-espresso/scripts/espresso_cart_functions.js: jQuery.fn.unload() is deprecated

plugins/event-espresso/scripts/espresso_cart_functions.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated

As WP5.6 is due for release on 8 Dec, just over three weeks away: https://wordpress.org/news/2020/11/wordpress-5-6-beta-4/.

Thanks.

Hi Elaine,

We plan on fixing the issue and have a Github ticket open here:
https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-legacy/issues/24

We’re investigating things now and will update that ticket as we make updates. You can follow the progress there.

Hi,
I’ve been keeping an eye on https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-legacy/issues/24 but there have been no updates. With WP5.6 due on 8/12 can you let me know if fixes will be ready by then?

Hi Elaine,

Tony has been making progress and I’ve been testing the updates but he hasn’t pushed any code, yet. We’ll be getting the updates ready for release soon.

Hi there,

We have a PR currently under review for for the changes required for this, however, the jQuery Migrate Helper plugin pushed an update today that provides an options page and now gives you the ability to switch to the version of jQuery running on WP5.5.

We’ll still be pushing to update EE3 to work with the latest version but the above will allows it to work as-is if you change the option in Tools -> jQuery Migrate -> jQuery Version. (It will give you the option of a ‘legacy’ jQuery version when running WP5.6).

Just noting we’ve pushed an update to EE3 which includes fixes for the jQuery version in WP5.6

If you run into any issues please let me know.

(note if you don’t see the update yet, go to Event Espresso -> General Settings and save, that will force a version check)

Hi Tony,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
We’ve noted the following warnings when we’ve updated to the latest EE3 versions:

/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/scripts/jquery.dataTables.min.js: jQuery.fn.attr(‘selected’) might use property instead of attribute

/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/scripts/jquery.ColVis.min.js: jQuery.fn.attr(‘checked’) might use property instead of attribute

We’re still going through the test site and will report any other JQuery notices.
