Issue with "Promotions Affect Taxes"

I am having issues with the “Promotions Affect Taxes” setting. I want this to be Yes – but it keeps switching back to no.

It will work for a while, then randomly will switch back to no.

I have no idea why or what is triggering this, but it is really annoying as people with promo codes are being charged tax on an entry when they should no be.

Hi there Matt,

I have not seen any other reports of this issue. I did look at a few of our testing sites which are on different installs of WordPress and none had it set to yes.

Is there a team member that is helping you create events and promotions on your site?

No one else has access to the site, so I can rule that out.

I have tried to work out why, or what might trigger this – but I am at a loss.

I need the setting to be on “Yes”, but I can save that setting and then the next day it is back to “No”.

Hi Matt,

Can you check to see if there’s anything set up to optimize/repair/clean up the database options table overnight or anything like that? It may help have a list of the active plugins on your site so we can investigate.

I have quite a few plugins, but the only one that does anything each night is a backup plugin.

Strangely, this stopped being an issue for about a week and today it switched back to “No” again.

Do any of the plugins run operations, like a clean up, on the options table?

Along with that, can you give us a list of the Event Espresso add-ons that are activated on this site?

Nothing that I am aware of running a clean up.

Plugins:

BackWUp
Contact Form 7
Duplicate Post
Force regenerate thumbnails
Recent Tweets
Revolution Slider
Wordfence
WP Rocket
WP Smush
wpMandrill
Yoast SEO

It will also be useful to know which Event Espresso add-ons you have activated. We can conclude you have Promotions activated, do you have any other Event Espresso add-ons installed and activated?

Yes, quite a few.

barcode scanner
Countries packs – UK
States packs – France, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland
Stripe Payment gateway
Ticketing

Hi Matt,

I’m not sure if it would be related, but the Countries and State packs add the Countries and State option to the database on activation. After that, they’re supposed to be deactivated and removed from the site. Can you remove those?

Update:

We found a fix for the Promotions settings getting reset and the fix is included in the latest releases of Event Espresso 4 core and the Promotions add-on. You can update to Event Espresso 4.9.2 and/or Promotions 1.0.7 to get the fix.
