How to simplify registration steps

I like event espressso. One challenge I do face is when users register for a “class”.

After adding my name and email and clicking the register button, it takes them to a new page where I then have to confirm my registration. This is fine, but there are then two buttons to confirm registration. Rather than just one and this is confusing.

After that, then I am taken to a 3rd page where I have to scroll and click a button that says “finalize your registration”. I don’t think a lot of users even catch this section and they believe they are signed up from step 2. Especially since they get an email saying they registered. But inside event espresso, they are not in the registered attendees list.

What can I do to simplify this process for users? If you ask me, it’s not very user friendly and there are too many steps.

How can I simplify these steps for users?

Please feel free to test what I mean.

Hi Heather,

Please note my responses below:

After adding my name and email and clicking the register button, it takes them to a new page where I then have to confirm my registration. This is fine, but there are then two buttons to confirm registration. Rather than just one and this is confusing.

We are adding an option in Event Espresso 3.1.28 that will let you set it to skip the confirmation page. If you’d like to remove the second button in the meantime, you can add the following to your theme’s custom stylesheet:

/* hide second confirmation button */
input#confirm2.btn_event_form_submit {display:none;}

So in 3.1.28, the payment page can be the second page if you disable the confirmation page. The Payment page has also received a makeover in the next version to make it look nicer and less confusing. Since in your case you are only accepting payments off-line, it might help to change the wording in the email that is automatically sent after they register and emphasize that they need to send in the payment in order to complete their regisration. I may also help to include the payment instructions in the confirmation email that gets sent out when they register if you have not already done so.

Thanks Josh. I will be sure to let my client know. How soon do you think the new version will be released?

Hello Heather,

The team is looking to release .28 very shortly, we are just keen to make sure it is in working order before release.

Event Espresso 3.1.28.3 was released yesterday, and includes the option to skip the confirmation page.
