It seems by default that in the sidebar upcoming events widget the event links go to registration pages. Is it possible to change this so they go to posts ?

Hi Andrew,

Well, the only way to do this currently would be to set the events Alternative Registration Page option to the post page, that way when the event is clicked it takes them to the post. but that would work on the event list and calendar too.

You could edit the widget code but I think it would need some work with
the database code to get the post id.

Another idea:

You could use a widget that displays posts. There are a fair amount of WordPress widget plugins that you could use to control the display of the posts in the widget. I like this one:
